New Product

Scorpion X !!! (F5J outrunner)

New product for 2011 Scorpion X by Heinrich comes with new X-tail and all carbon fuselage which is done by new technology.
Model is constructed for thermal soaring (only soft main spar - max 700g total weight!) for "F5J outrunner" category flown in some European states: http://f5jfun.com/pravidla/euro2010_308.pdf
First flight with new tail showed better circling characteristics, accurate control and more precise spot landings compared with older V-tail version: http://www.heinrich.sk/pages/scorpion.html
This 2,3m wingspan plane in version without ailerons(called "Thermic" is 500g ready to flight. 6 servos version - with ailerons is 560 g total.
Elevator is removable (2x M2 screw). New X-tail is lighter than V-tail.
Wing is available also in 2 P - 2 piece version.
Production of X-tail version of Scorpion is going to start on the 1st February.

The fact is that this plane is fully moulded but it was designed and built as light as possible for thermal flying. Wing is really OK but is not a hotliner.
Recommended safe climb rate is about 15 m/s.
But thanks to its light weight construction and fast wing section it enables to utilize weak thermals and search for "good air" all over the sky despite of the fact it is 2,3m wingspan.

Ok. I asked because even when one flies soft, things could get little strong in powerful thermals at higher altitude or getting out of it.

In general it is recommended to get out of lift with this plane using full butterfly :-) And you have really not a reason to worry that you accelarate too much.

Hi, I looked at that pic of the T-tail again, the boom (between wing and tail) seems to be very small diameter, I hope it has enough stability for not breaking it too soon, or wiggling of the tail? I guess it's same size/type as V-tail? Thx, J.

Cross-section of Scorpion is minimalised to reduce drag.
Yes, fuselage is the same type as V-tail, molds are the same but fuse is done by new technology which improves its stiffness and weight. The previous fuse was really strong enough. Furthermore, new one is stronger and lighter.

9OO gr Difference (lighter) in flying weight with the NAN Orion, which is fairly same size span. This can count !

Be careful please..these 2 planes have very different philosophy and style of usage !
Scorpion is PRIMARILLY considered to be an model for careful electric thermal soaring ! On the other hand NAN Orion is PRIMARILLY a hotliner.
