1/12 P-51D Mustang Conversion

Hey

I am currently in the process of building the House of Balsa 1/12 P-51 D Mustang kit and am wanting to convert it to electric.

My question is what motor would be the best for this conversion or if some of the ones I already have would work.

Here are some specs on the plane:

Wing span 36 in.
Wing area 216 sq. in.
Wt. with radio 22-28 oz.
Wing loading 14.6-18.6 oz./sq. ft.
Fuselage length 28.5 in.
2-4 channel radio reqd.
Engine TD.051 - .10

I have a 2200kv motor ( http://modelaero.com/product/SM2212-6G.html ) that I thought might work with a 2 cell but still might be too much. I also have a few 1300kv and 1500kv bluewonders that I could use but not sure if those would be enough.

I have a good range of batteries and ESCs so I just need help deciding on the motor.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I am going to be ambiguous on purpose.

Use the 1300 KV blue wonder if it is anywhere near in size to an axi 2212 motor and use a 3S 1200-1800mah pack and prop until you get to about 15 amps.

should go like stink!

I looked up the 1300kv bluewonder and it seems that its max amp draw is only around 7.5. So Im not thinking that would be enough for this plane. Would only put out like 75 watts on a 3 cell and I was thinking about having around 150watts of power.

How would a 1000kv towerpro motor work out?

sorta the same answer... since you are not providing links or specs to the motor.

ps... yes, I would shoot for 150 input watts... that's why 3S (under load, 10V) and 15a. 10 x 15 = 150.

Deluxe,
Try this link to much more detailed information on that TP motor:
2409-18 at Heads Up R/C

All of the motors listed there have very detailed information to help you pick what you need. Their service is great, and their shipping is a flat-rate of $2 for just about everything.

As for the HoB P-51D, I built a couple of them long, long ago. Keep it as light as possible, and shoot for at least 24 oz. of thrust.

Thanks for the link. That was helpful as it was a very detailed description. Might have to order one from there since it is a lot closer.

1000kv... possibly, but I 've seen these motors and they are not well made. the shafts break or bend easily, even with prop saver adapaters.

1300 and 1500 way too small a motor.

or a little more money but here in the states:

I have quite a few of these BP motors and they are all very good.
