Big Dog, my Helios that you have flown is at 72. Love it there. Like Kyle says, go further back and it flies just fine, its just too talkitive and in the slightest breeze its just too much pilot workload.

Love the 72, but I bet I would not notice a mm or 2.

Have you sexed it yet? It is super important to know if you have a man or woman DLG!!!!! I always order female DLG's just for the reason of doing like Dave plans and I have seen some guys do that to their man DLG's "Knowingly???" and when that happens the concept of the thing is that it very well could just fly away at the first chance in the 11th hour cuz it saw Blue Skies over Colorado and you never see it again cuz it didnt like the man love.

CA Filler?

Hey guys,
I am a lucky recipient of a Helios and am building it now. Got a question regarding ca filler.

I haven't used ca filler for high stress applications like the launch peg - partly because the only ca filler around seems to imitate (and contain) balsa dust. Not my idea of a structural component for the launch stresses at the wingtip peg.

What is the verdict with baking soda? Will this work in the way Kristoff has described using ca filler for the launch peg?

TIA
Russ

Russ,

I use 24h epoxy with microbaloons and cottonfloks.
Thats a really solid solution. The cottonfloks are in for keeping the epoxy
for leaking away.

flying is not a dream

hello,

don't worry. CA is just a good glue if the surface are well prepared.

in my Helios, the rudder was just glued with CA, and NO FILLER.
it finally debond in a rude back wind land. But never had problem during launch.
an throw my helios several times at more than 60m.... (Openaltimeter).
you can ask to Kristof, i'm not a low thrower

Then i add a little bit of filler (KAPOV) to get a better Land proof rudder...

regards

For CA filler you can use baking soda. Cures very quickly and goes rock hard.

to throw another option out there. I used thin CA to get the vertical where I wanted it then used Black CA to finish the bond. Made a nice little fillet of black ca and have never had an issue with it. even my first Helios that dove straight in to the dirt from 200 + feet, the rudder didn't budge. I still have that piece of the fusing hanging in my shop as a reminder how well that worked.
