Thanks, Chris. I never even considered the elevator, I was so focused on the battery placement. The Extra EXP is the most solid tracking plane I have(at low or high speeds) and I've seen how stable it is in the videos. Just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Knowing this info, it seems like the EXP is a plane that begs for 3 rate switches. I need to read my X9303 manual and see if it can do triple rates.

Yep, triple rates is the way to go. Low, 3D and insane. I plan to set up a triple rate on my MXS next time out.

Yep, I am also becoming a 3 rate guy. I used to believe in 1 rate and mucho expo but with the throws we get now and the long servo arms I have been forced to adapt.

So Doc, do you like 3S better on the Extra, MXS or Edge?

I like 4s on the MXS because it's just baaaad. With the shorter tail moment it tumbles better than the other two, so I like to have power to carry into those maneuvers. On 4s the MXS will do deadly point rolls and super long slow rolls. At the higher speeds it is just like an arrow. That, and it's such a bad ass looking plane that it has to go fast and sound mean. It's just suits it really well.

I run the Extra on 3s because like that it is smooth and precise, nice and easy to fly, relaxing almost.....though I haven't tried it on 4s yet. I have a sort of reverance for the Extra EXP, simply because it is so smooth and graceful. I'll probably keep it on 3s because of that. I'm going to get a red one too, so maybe that one will be my 4s firebreather.

I need to get another Edge and try it both ways. I never flew mine on 4s, but I was certainly happy with the performance on 3s.

Great thread

I bought the Edge as an early christmas present for myself. This is my first EF plane, and I will start building during the holidays. Flying conditions are not very favourable over here at the moment. -4F with a cold northern breeze make your fingers go in slow motion. I think I will settle for flying the sim for a while. I have tried the edges included in the real flight sim, but haven't really "locked" on to any of them. Does anybody know if there are any edges in the swap pages that comes close to the EXP series?
Thank you for a great forum, and I wish you all a merry christmas.

I don't think a sim prepares you to fly a particular airplane, but it is good for learning/maintaining control orientation and other basic skills. I just don't think you can download an Extreme Flight plane and expect it to fly like the one you will take to the field.

But......I wouldn't worry about flying the real Edge EXP. It's got no bad habits, and it feels smooth and secure. Just fly it.
