Yeah, I've started liking the look a lot better with them on, myself. Used to not care so much.
Good tip, on mounting them high.

Shooting regular landings is a plus as well as it keeps the gentle landings skills at a premium

Good tip Herc! You also Manta. I guess I should just land this thing OVER and OVER to get it down.

The pants on my 64" MXS cracked too, right where the wood block glued to it. I caught it before it was completely destroyed. Glued them back down with CA, made a fillet from the side of the wood onto the plastic of the wheel pant, and then reinforced with some fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Hopefully that should hold 'em for a while!

I don't know about the MXS fairings, but the fiberglass fairings on my 60" Extra and 48" Edge have withstood many hundreds of grass landings without anything more than some minor cracks around the opening.

I hear ya, I used to think the 54 was so much nicer looking but over the years have come to like either and appreciate the difference. There is a really nice Yak 54 at the airport where I work that's owned by a Russian dentist, but I've never seen it flown. He also has a Yak 52 that he does fly regularly, I think he's training on the 52 and eventually going to start flying the 54 when he has had enough flight time.

I miss spoke. I meant to say Wheel Pants. Yes, my pants on my Edge have lasted forever. These seem to be thinner now that I compare them....

Truth be told that round cowl is starting to grow on me. The 54 design makes it look like a short plane in length.

Wish we had some videos of it though.

Big ole +1 on that.
I love watching these videos, especially before (and during) putting one together.
Good stuff!

It's a good idea to watch all the videos from Herc no matter what plane you are building because there are so many technique tips you can pick up from him -- doesn't matter how long you've been doing this or how good you think you are, you will lean something new, guaranteed.

practice makes perfect, altho getting a soft, slow touchdown with minimal rollout each time is almost impossible for me lol.But I do take some flights and do a few.
