Old's Cool
I've got the same tool disease, but I'm maybe stage 2 or 3 ad you look to be a solid stage 4.

Went to a Colorado Huckfest yesterday and today... had a blast. Bunch of cool cars showed up too. The TBM we really nice so I took it off Tim's hands and my friend got the 92 Edge from Tim as well. NWRC fun bus was great to have there!!

Well, I'm sure he's got some help around that area. Hope he gets it all worked out, up and running OK.

The new 52" Velox is even better than I was expecting, and I was expecting a lot.

I just Love my 64" MXS Baby Metal!
So locked in, even without a gyro.
Tumbles with aplomb and harriers better than my 60" Slick V2 did.
I set the Talon 90 to 8v and low and behold, the Lemon Rx didn't blow up.
Baffles are working as the motor gets a warm but far from hot.
The rudder is extremely powerful. The back side of KE loops didn't lose nearly as much altitude I have in other 3 planes.
I'm a happy camper!

edit: updating the Castle Link to v4.25 has solved the weirdness I was having when it was in the Slick.

Electric 110" yak ready for a maiden on Thursday! Thanks areoplaying for developing the Stingr (gear reduction) system and figuring out how to get 75lbs of electric 3d muscle from a little ole 30x12 falcon prop! More to come later!

What's with that motor setup.
Maybe showing my inexperience here but I've never seen anything like that

Come on over to the power thread...I am a plug and play kinda guy. So i don't say much in there but i listen to smart people! Areoplaying (Jim) has developed a system the Stingr (gear reduction...to me it's like a harley)

Not my writing but here is what Jim came up with for my yak. He can do other setups too.

.here is what areoplaying (Jim ) made for me.

The 5040 stock Kv is 530. The gear reduction would make this 159 with the 18T pinion, so at nominal 12S, we would expect 6360 RPM with the intended load at the StinGR efficiency of 90.04%.

With a 30x12 Falcon C2E, this would be about 240A, which is a bit high for any application, even with a 300A controller. This would also be a Mach 0.737 tip speed, which is on the far side of the efficiency curve and producing Amps that are really not translating to power.

So I asked for a custom rewind to 510, which would bring the current down at nominal voltage to about 212A. This is about 76 lbs of thrust as well, which should be perfect for the 34.5 lbs 110" Yak 54.

The rewind was delivered at 509Kv, and as good as I could have hoped for. So at nominal voltage, we're seeing about 210 - 211 Amps and about 75.4 lbs of thrust at 6110 RPM, which is also just a bit over the efficiency Mach number for this size prop. So it is virtually the highest we should be spinning this prop for peak efficiency at every performance level.

Taking a reading at between 8 and 10 seconds, I saw 42.684 volts and 194.44 Amps at 5871 RPM, which is still 69.6 lbs of thrust and the straight drive equivalent of 9336 Watts-in. This would be about 237A and 10526W at nominal voltage, so the 26A difference is the efficiency of the gear reduction. This is also the equivalent of 11.28 HP at 42.684v and 12.72 HP at nominal 44.4 volts, which is 211A and 5.5 minutes at 9200mAh. So we should see a decent flight time as well on a 12S 10Ah main pack.

The test also included a 5 minute flight simulation in a ground test, pulsing the throttle and simulation full throttle up lines, etc. The motor got up to 155.6*F and the controller got up to 135.4*F with no real flight ventilation on a hotter than normal June day here in FL. This is shot with my temp gun on the motor bell and on the flat side of the ESC opposite the heat sinks.

But here is the real difference......

If I were to spin a 30x12 beechwood on a straight drive outrunner at 80% efficiency to 6107 RPM, I would need a Kv of 171.92. The Kv_Kt relationships would mean a required 267A on 44.4v. No way around it. So the *relative* efficiency between the gear reduction and the Falcon propeller combine for a real 21% increase in efficiency to the same RPM. Boom.
