Don't overthink the right and down thrust issue. You can always add it after your maiden flight, if you feel that it's needed. All you'd need to do is add shims behind the motor mount.
Yes, Tom,
but
If its only 1-2 mm its ok, but if it's more, then the mount need to be moved left in order to have the prop sitting in the centre......
I dont bother right now, the engine is probably going to be used half-throttle anyway.
it's always good to have a little spare if a situation comes up!

You can always use the rudder on take off. I don't build right thrust in anymore.

Downthrust is good if there isn a lot of wing incedence.

I'm with you, Tele.

There has been hundreds of these built per plans. I see no reason to modify the thrust angles.

If encountered, any problems can be solved by proper usage of throttle and rudder.

Krokko, the 2mm difference you've found could be error from the ruler you're using. It's normal.

Even if it's not, 2mm in a plane wich wingspan is 2642mm is really nothing.

tail feathers

progress update,

tail put together, I used Robarts pins.
It's not glued together yet, have to look into all other small pieces in the back before gluing the stab and fin.

glued the two pins to the front of the wing center. looks OK.

Need to get courage to cut the ailerons......and fix them with hinges and the rest. I'm going to follow the plan for servo installation in the wing. It looks ok and the explanation for the servo hook up seem ok.

Landing gear blocks and landing gear is also on the agenda. (the winter is long here, no hurry)!

Couldn't resist to add a pic on my partner "Elvis"

Does Elvis help you build ?

I followed Sig's instruction, when cutting out the ailerons. It's not hard, but it does take some courage. LOL

Here's a pic of Talle, taken today. She was helping me on my current project.

couldn't resist showing a link to a really nicely built SW.
Almost made me think of moving in to stamp collecting!
The end wasn't that nice, lets hope he could put the pieces together.

No, he doesn't like the smell of the glue, he is active on the field helping me starting the engine, very curious and interested!

did you look at the videolink I just put up, even the instruments was moving around!!???

The builder did add some great detail. It didn't look like he was in trouble. I wonder what happened ?

You're doing a nice job on your SW. There's no need for you to take up stamp collecting.

Why do people put music over the soundtrack!

I would have much rather listened to that OS 300T!

Awesome cockpit detail! I Hope to do mine as an all-out scale except for the heads & carbs of the Saito duel carb FA300TTDP CDI engine hanging out the sides of the cowl.

Hello there!

CDI on a methanol engine, conversion to gas. Yes, if you think it's necessary, otherwise, why!

I have a new Laser 180 on my Tiger Moth, abolutely OK, why considering gas and CDI when I fly tha plane a couple of hours per season??

Maybe you sell the CDI systems, then I can understand you!!!

Glow ignition compared to converting to CDI/Methanol:

CDI W/methanol starts easier, idles reliably about 300 RPM lower, W/34 BTDC ingnition timing it will make about 6% more power and it will run about 25% longer on the same amount of fuel. No support equipment to lug around. The module battery can be charged W/ the same charger as the Rx battery.

Indeed, the question seems to be.... WHY NOT!

If a person flys more than a couple of hours a season, it's a no brainer.

As far as converting to gas?

Gas stinks, it is dangerous to transport inside a vehicle & the converted glow engine are highly unlikely to last as long burning gasoline as they will burning methanol. The elevated temperatures & carbon will take it's toll on the top end while the reduced oil mixes will affect the non-roller bearing rods. I can make 33% more HP in a 30cc CDI/Meth engine than a 20% larger 36cc gas 4-stroke.

If you really want to save fuel cost, get rid of the pick up truck that you need to haul gas models around & get a mini van to haul methaol inside.

I am looking at placing my FA180HC CDI/BBC engine into a 105" WS 20# Maxford 20% JN-4 Jenny.

With 3.5HP on 15% nitro spinning a 20 X 6 prop @ 8000 RPM I can geneate 29# of static thrust and fly in excess of 45 MPH. What more do I need?

Your glow ignition Laser will be hard pressed to do that & it will use @ least 20% more fuel IF it does.

Pay attention to what I'm putting down in my posts. it's not guesswork, I have proven it on many occasions.
