Build Log

Sig's 1/3 Scale Spacewalker

I've wanted to build Sig's 1/3 scale Spacewalker since I began my RC carrer in 1990. I never seemed to get to it, but I did build their 1/4 scale version.

My Cessna 195 build is on hold, until Spring, when I can paint her. I needed (wanted) a project, until then. The Spacewalker should fit the bill.

I picked this kit up on fleabay. The newspaper packing says 1989.

A week ago, I broke open the box.

Construction begins with wing subassemblies, and then wing frame up.

All has went well so far. The right wing is approx 75% completed. Most of the pictured work was completed today.

The wing went together well. I found it interesting that all wing ribs are light ply.

Ya, Glenn made the actual purchase. He delivered the kit on his Thanksgiving visit.

What he doesn't know is that I may hit him up for some of his RDS units.

Is there a remaining seat for me??? I have soda, popcorn and brazilian fudge!

This kit seems to be a monster! Are you planning a full cockpit and pilot, Tom?

Thanks, guys !

Quite a few of you are interested. I guess I'll have to do a good job !

The wingspan is 104". I don't have an engine for her, but I was thinking a GT-80 would work well.

I haven't decided on the cockpit. It will have an instrument panel. After that, I haven't decided on how much detail to add in that area.

Gary Sibert at Pink-it http://www.pink-it.net/ will provide the rib tapes, but no other decisions have been made as to covering or color scheme.

Thanks again, everyone, for expressing an interest in this build.
