I got my Flash 5 today!

UPS just dropped off my new Hitec Flash 5 radio.... this thing looks nice! It's my first stick radio since, until now I've been a car guy... it looks complicated

I'm looking forward to thumbing through the manual after work!

In another day or 2 I'll have the rest of my gear and my airplane... I hope there are calm days ahead

The Flash 5 is a great choice. I took the advice of fellow ezoners and purchased the Flash 5 as my second radio. I started out with a Hitec Focus III. You find that the Flash 5 has features that you might never use, but it's good to know that you have them for the future. The 5 model memory is probably the most useful feature of the radio. I've already used up all of my memory. I guess I'll soon need to get another Flash 5 transmitter (or stop buying models). One of the best upgrades you can get for your new radio is to purchase a 1600 mah Nimh Transmitter Battery Pack. You can fly all day (even all week) without needing to recharge.

I've used my Flash 5 all day with the stock battery.
Ran my Sears 12Ah pack dry flying my FMA Razor
from about 9:30 AM until about 4:30 PM.
I did take a few breaks for PB&J and motor
cool downs. I was charging & flying 5 600mAh packs.

I've never checked the current drain, but the stock
battery seems to hold up well. I do like the voltage
display and so far, I've never heard the 'Low Batt' beeper..

What I do to avoid that problem is set up the models that correspond to a particular model type on each of the five memory spots. R/E planes on #1, A/E/R planes on #2, planes requiring elevon mixing on #3, etc. Trim each plane's linkages to zero on the Tx, not trim the radio to the plane.

I also have a flash 5. Great tx! Plus, Mark has a great idea if you
are currently flying many models. Once your transmitter hits around 9 on the display, it will beep. Time to charge the nicad.

Best to recharge before you get close to that beep.. That's a low voltage alarm, not mah remaining.. voltage goes too low, plane goes bye bye

Tic, if that happens to me, I'll let ya know because in western PA, the wind goes from west to east. I'll just let ya know which model I'm flying and what time to look out for it! LOL!!!!

I have both a 4x and a 5x and I've run them both down to the beep stage without losing an airplane. Of course with parkflyers, they won't go far (grin). I think the hitec transmitters are great.
