EPP Tilt Wing Free Wing CNC wire cut/blade cx foamy freewing


Here is a bench test of the greenwing tiltrotor blade cx, I cant decide on the terminology for this thing, explaining it makes it sound more complicated than it is: It just a flying wing mounted on an axle, so that it can pivot in pitch on the back of a coaxial helicopter. On the axle, a servo is mounted with an arm, which when lowered locks the wing against the fuselage for airplane mode, so that it flies as a tailsitter in airplane mode! If the servo arm is fully raised, the wing weathervanes in the headwinds and the rotor wake from the coaxial's rotors. I was calling it a variable pitch range locking freewing tiltrotor but im looking for better terminology

The wing is tilted by a servo with a metal crank arm (plastic would break). need to build this immediately

Very cool!

They look to work pretty well....you must have really taken some time to get it all working right,good job!....and it sounds good.

Any pics close up to see how it all works?...the mechanics of it.

Imagine doing this with a larger heli like a t rex or a blade sr.

Id like to find a coaxial Trex. I have cad files ready to manufacture a 40lb coaxial helicopter for tilt rotor purposes but it would cost me 5grand. I set my sights too high

No, you just set your budget too low

it always works! ive done this with dozens of different off the shelf coaxials. my next project will be an mcx.

A question. My memory is that most off-the-shelf coaxes have a 45 degree stabilization flybar that tries to keep the rotor axis vertical.
Trying to tilt the axis too quickly (lots of cyclic) often results in the CW and CCW rotor blades hitting each other or the aircraft body.
How do you avoid these problems? The photos still show flybars.
Do you just change the tilt slowly enough for the flybar to reorient itself?

the blade cx will blade strike cx alot as a tiltwing, but like you said a slow transition can avoid that. the new one i use has the rotors way apart and thus no more blade or flybar strike.

Thanks. I forgot that moving the rotors apart also prevents the blades from hitting things.

The blade cx tailsitter is just a strap a wing on it deal. hs85mg servo worked for tilting a blade cx, also very easy to engineer. Piloting it is really for beginners compared to torque rolling a 3D YAK foamy. The servo for the big tilt wing is 2 100 oz inch Futabas or one 300oz inch JR. I have more pictures on my rc blog of the internals.
The coaxial tiltwings have the potential to be flown acrobatically (with a coaxial t-rex once someone invents it) although im not a good pilot for it
