I seen this video lately lads and thought it was very good, must watch to the end,a very nicely mixed up video with exceptional 3D flying
in it too,i enjoyed this one,and i don't normally watch videos to the end unless they draw me in,this one did! Nice plane/ engine & not to mention nice flying skills, also it shows some very cool camera angles, now this is what i would call a 'good' video to watch. Plus @ 5mins in watch him catch the wing? :O

On the eyes/hat cam thing...I have a pair of sunglasses that I "scripto-ed" a crosshair on it to follow the plane. works pretty good.

I always enjoy tony's flying and watch all his videos! He has a very unique style and I love that he seems to be flying everyday! I wish I was able to get out as much as he does even if its just with a foam plane. He has progressed a lot as a 3d pilot my skills dont match his thats for sure. Im still working on harrier rolls and have been for over a year. THANKS TONY

One thing that differentiates videos that are interesting to watch from those that aren't is wether the entire flight (or at least most of it) looks intentional. That's pretty much independent of skill level. A video of a plane going through various gyrations with never a moment of obviously controlled flight ( straight and level, constant radius turn and level, constant radius loop, etc) leaves you wondering if the gyrations were intentional or if you're just looking at a series of lucky saves and stick banging. To put it differently if the viewer can see some easily recognized maneuvers that are clearly well executed, it sets the expectation that the rest of the maneuvers that may not be something the viewer has seen before are also well executed. A mediocre pilot who does that can make a more watchable video than a highly skilled pilot who doesn't. |

Very well said Ken,i fully agree, nothing worse that watching a video and you think that person is fighting with the the plane rather than flying it.
it sure is nice to see control in all maneuvers. PS any one know who is flying in that video,he looks familiar? |

Mr. Kamikaze, I'm lucky to have gotten a personal lesson from Bone Doc himself, he taught me to tumble and use a blender as an entry for a knife edge spin. He told me to experiment and push my skill. I like foamies. I think Tony has very good skill. No more negative from me. I think it's time to leave Tony alone.

Regarding hat cams I have only done a few videos and was using a regular video cam attached to a bycycle helmet. It took fairly good video, but was kinda hard to keep the plane in the field of view, probably because the helmet and camera were so heavy. Anyway, I recently I picked up a mobius cam and attached it to the bill of a baseball cap and used that for my last 2 videos. It actually takes just as good of quality video as my full size video camera and is much easier to keep the plane in the field of view. The baseball cap and tiny Mobius are so light that it is just natural to move your head in the direction the plane is flying rather than shift your eyes. The result is the plane tends to stay in the center of the viewing area much better. Regarding previous comments that maybe foamy videos should be posted on a foamy thread I think that kind of bias is uncalled for. It implies that those who fly larger balsa planes are somehow better pilots than those who fly foamies. What BS! IMO it does not matter what type of plane you fly. I would much rather watch a 32" foamie or Micro flying well executed maneuvers than a 48" balsa flying mediocre...... |

Jase flying an indoor model was one of the few video I saw someone flying a plane out of foam and could class it as "3D video throwdown" |

This thread is called the "3D video throw down". Not the 3D video balsa throw down, or the 3D video expert video throw down. It is all 3D, it does not matter what you are flying and just because someone has progressed to buying a balsa plane does not make them a better pilot. |

I think most of us say the same thing all over again.
I believe what most of us want is a thread (lets call it a playlist or selection) of cool 3d throwdown videos the kind of sponsored pilots or above average pilots do. There is another thread with a different theme in which i have posted, as i dont consider to be a great pilot just as yet. And yes, Dermensch fly really good. |

I like the pure hobbyist videos, they can have more 'character', especially if they add something different. Like this "RC schadenfreude"!

Getting this plane flying nice now after the build, these have been the first 'calm' flights i have had with it, got out this evening in lovely sunny blue skies (prob first good day this year in ireland lol) got some footage, set up the plane a little better i think for precision and 3D flight.
The evoloution 33cc engine gets better with age, great engine. Will edit a new video soon. |
