Question about battery cover...

While building a side by side AAA pack the soldering iron just glanced the plastic covering on the negative side of one of the cells causing it to melt just a bit. I'm getting a voltage from the pack, but I've yet to charge it. Should I replace the cell or does the plastic covering actually do anything.

If you are talking about a Nimh cell, no the plastic is just there as an insulator. The entire can of the cell is the negative terminal.

Yeah it's a NiMh cell, sorry forgot to post that. So I don't have to do it again, GREAT. Thanks....
