The trophies from the Golden Age air races. The Schneider Trophy was for seaplanes in a closed circuit race over water,The Thompson was for a closed circuit mass launch pylon race, The Bendix was for a trascontinential point to point race and The Pulitzer was a closed circuit pylon race.

From the late 40's Shoestring Goodyear racer.
I'm scanning a set of Goldberg plans currently, will post when they're done.

There's a great book on this subject, titled the "Golden Age Of Air Racing"
I bought mine at Oshkosh, and it is autographed by the late Steve Wittman.

I also have the book "Race With The Wind" and also the "Great Air Races"

Also "September Champions" and another book "A Season Of Eagles"

Thanks Scott. It will be a couple of days. The plans are in two very large sheets and I have to trace the die cut ribs and formers.

I also have an affinity for the Shoestring.
I got to fly a full sized one 30 years ago.

Lovely plans, thanks for sharing.

What is the gold racer in that picture? It suggests to me that it's the radial version of the Wedell Williams but it seems a bit "stubby". Or is that just the nature of the picture?

I took this picture at San Jose, California. The plane is Sky Baby the twin to Art Chester's "SweePea.

It looks like the pilot is still in the cockpit. Is that Reid-Hillview airport?

Correct on both counts. I lifted the plane so the pilot (Lud Kding the K of K&B) could get out. He was not hurt and the plane only had minor damage.
