4.4lbs Radian Pro
Here is my Radian Pro FPV set up weighing in at 4.4lbs and flies like a dream, yet still looking for more energy efficient set up. (Maybe a diff plane?) 3S 4200mah - 4S 3300mah lipo. Power 15 motor, 80A ESC, GoPro Hero pan/tilt. 3 1/4oz counter weight, Reinforced fuselage. !!!!!!!Please if you think that this power setup is worth a shot, reinforce the fuselage as in my first attempt the motor torqued to hard it !!!PULLED OFF!!! the plane!!!

If you are trying to build an FPV plane there are much more suitable platforms. One that comes to mind it the Skywalker: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=19805 |

The wing area of the radian pro is ideal for fpv. The fuselage is much too small, but I suppose you could rebuild/modify the fuselage somehow to accomodate the extra gear. I can't think of another 2 meter foam sailplane that has the wing area of the RP. Of course, you are turning a very floaty sailplane into a powered fpv craft that will not likely stay up without power.

Wing area is just part of the equation. The SkyWalker for example has just 13% less wing area than a Radian but way better payload accommodation.
More important than wing area is wing loading. What happens to that when you double the weight? It is far from being suitable for FPV. |

BB Spinner / Graupner Prop Questions
I just got my BB standard spinner and Graupner 11X6 blades from Esprit. My spinner is 40mm since the 50mm standard spinner was not in stock. It appears that the blades will not fold completely flat against the fuselage with the shaft adapter fully seated on the motor shaft. If I move the shaft adapter forward a bit, the angle is more favorable and the blades get closer to being folded completely against the fuselage. I'm reluctant to take material off the prop at the blade root to get more clearance. Any suggestions?
Second question: When I tighten the pivot bolts that hold the prop blades on, the slight compression causes the blades to bind. Should I sand the blades down a bit at the root end or perhaps use thread locker (Loctite) without compressing the blade brackets? Any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated! BILL in MO |

Definitely use thread locker on the nuts. I use the Blue grade which will hold them without making them too difficult to remove. Don't know what to suggest about the undersize spinner. I had the same problem but just waited until I could get the correct size. I bought the Cermark brand rather than the BB because it was less expensive.

billgerth,
The correct spinner for the Radian Pro is 55mm dia. A 40 mm spinner is going to look awful and reduces the effective prop dia which negates some of the performance increase as well as creating folding problems. My advice is to return the 40mm spinner to Esprit and order an Aeronaut white turbo 55/4 with a52/8 yoke. Your blades will work fine with this setup. You will need to sand the blade roots so you can tighten the blades completely. BALDY |

You do NOT need to sand the blade roots. The nuts are not supposed to be tightened hard. Just get them firm and use thread locker. |
