Catching a Radian Pro

EZCanuck and JumpySticks, thanks for the videos showing hand catching a Radian Pro.

I also found a few on YouTube.

Interesting techniques being used, only one came in with full flaps at the last minute.

As you say, practice, practice, practice.

Time to upack my Radian Pro and get working on checking my pushrods, firewall, props and propshaft screw, rudder hinge, etc. etc. etc.

I bought some Morgan Mill servo covers and also some 4 inch servo extenders to pull through the servo wires while attaching the wing.

I plan to paint the underside of the wing with black acrylic paint leaving the right wing tip white.

I also plan on putting chrome tape on the leading edge.

Just for interest, after plowing through this entire thread, I now have 38 pages of good tips and mods for the Radian Pro.

Thanks to all...

You are to be commended for doing all that reading. I have read through 230 pages of a couple of threads, and about 200 pages of this one. I know how long it takes. After going to all that work, it would be great if you could make a summary of the mods and tips for the benefit of all...

Would be great to have 1 page hosted somewhere with all the mods listed that everyone has done for the Radian Pro. I'd be happy to build it and host it if anyone has that information they'd like to see in one single place.

Perhaps it is time to close this forum ( which only Chuck the lost Thrill Seeker moderator can do ), start a new one and reserve the first 5 or 6 posts for the "sticky" which you can't do at a thread level ( only the forum level )... similar to the orginization of the 808 #16 Key Cam thread... for an itemization of mods, links etc

The downside is having anyone person host a web, be the "keeper 'o the blog", moderate a thread, or be "Keeper 'o the FAQ" and wondering where they will be next year. The pros of this Ad Hoc thread is that there will always be someone here to point new folks to previous messages, partial summaries of basic mods and more.

A real downside is a newbee reading hundreds of messages of an non existant problem such as the original prop. But it could be worse. Some of us started on the Easy Star threads years ago... enough said
Good idea. I was thinking the same thing after reading of Streg's ordeal.
Yes, the keycam thread model is a good one, reserving a few posts for FAQ's, but Tom must be retired because it looks like a full time job. The RP would probably not be so time intensive.

Programming of different radios for the full house RP is a common question too.

If someone wants to start a thread, here is some info for a start:
Here is a list of the most common modifications.

Better Prop-Graupner 10X8
Bigger battery-personal preference.
Sand or replace sticky pushrods-Sullivan Goldn Rods.
EZ connectors for rudder and elevator servos to avoid conflict at max servo throw.
Fairings for under wing controls-home made or Here.
Painting or adding dark film under wing for visibility. Monocote stick on or canned spray paint.
Chrome or other reflective tape on leading edge for protection and visibility.
Stick on film under fuse for ding protection.
Check and/or replace rudder hinges. Some use plastic hinges and tape to cover hinge gap.
Plug in servo connectors for easier wing installation. Or use servo extensions.
GPS or other flight logging equipment.
Thermal Scout.
Video cameras- anywhere from cheap keychain cams to Go-Pro.
FPV equipment-many have crashed with this....risky at this point.
Lawn chair with swivel platform.
Neck massager. (Find your own...tried to find a link but none would pass the family friendly rules).

What would be the best; wiki- or blog-style? Other suggestions?

Sorry for posting the above note without attaching my document containing all the tips and mods I pulled from this thread for follow-up and investigation.

My Radian Pro is still in the box and I decided to read this entire thread and pull out all the posts that I thought would be relavent for follow-up.

I will be using a DX8, so I have a DX8 set-up section and a telemetry section of posts that will not be relavent to everyone.

If someone wants to take a shot at condensing my 38 pages down to one page, be my guest...

I recommend you do it on a thread here at RC Groups.
You'll get more suggestions here due to the traffic.

Eflite 480 report

I couldn't maiden my RP today so at the least I wanted to get some numbers from the watt meter.
I'm running an Eflite 480 (1020kv) with Graupner Cam 10x6 blades.
On a 3 cell it pulled 224 watts at 21.5 amps. My AUW is 33.7 oz so this puts it about 107 watts per pound which I think will be plenty.
