I just started the build on mine. I have a set of the RC Lander retracts and struts coming and I am planning on powering it with a WeMoTec Midi fan and an ARC 36-75-1 motor on 8s.
The tail is installed and I have added some addition support for the rudder linkage. My current plan is to ditch the hardware for the elevators, ailerons and flaps in favor of something stronger. I did notice that the back of the fuselage limits down elevator travel. Is anybody making a change here or is there sufficient down travel as it is? Thanks X30 |

These units are beefier than the E-flite ones. You'll have to add some ply underneath the flanges to lift them up a little and also you'll have to sand down one of the ribs. You'll also have to modify the wheel well liner to accommodate the depth of the retract body. For the nose gear, I removed the steering mechanism on the retract and replaced it with the arm that came with the kit. I cut the arm down because it's too long. ImagesView all Images in thread

AWesome Chad! Great work! Thanks for sharing it with us.
If you look closely to the HL website the F-18 struts comes out straight. The wheel sits really silly on the ground at an angle. Only thing is that you would have to do is turn the sturts 90* . But again I have not got these on hand at the moment. My buddy thinks this thing can handle 8lb no problem. He's flying his F-18 on 8s and slammed it on one of landing. Not a sinlge bend on these landing gear. Reason I want to check these out is not about that price but to keep our weight down. Mikes' T-45 his amazing with his CS $70 combo. To do 114 mph is WOW! Mikes' setup is lite at 6s so everyones goal here is to do it lite. His recipe for success seems to fly great! |

Sorry for that I was just trying to help out.. I have a F-86 that I run a 5s 3200 in and was getting 4 to 5 min. flights on a 30c batt. When I used the XPS 65c 3200mha 5s pack im getting over 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 min. flights NOW I think with the higher C you can get a bit longer flight out of the same size packs..

Not a problem. I'd definitely look you up when I am in need of some more XPS packs.
You get longer time with XPS packs because Jim Drew says he under rates the capacity of his packs. So in reality 3200mah packs are closer to 4000mah. Nothing wrong with that, but I am more concerned with the takeoff weight of this already heavy plane. |
