I remaidened my Stobel V2 that was treed a couple weeks ago. Either the conditions were great (they were!) or that plane ain't hurt in the bit! It was 10.5 oz before the fix and it's now 10.6 oz. I really wish I had a sub 10 oz Stobel, but in active air there ain't nothing wrong with what I got!

Whoa! The new look threw me for a loop! Hey, I've got a question for all you builders. My vertical is pretty flimsy in the last inch or so before the trailing edge. Would a heavier foam like hi-load 40 or 60 improve that? Or is the Dow 25 okay for verticals?

IMO, HL 40 or Formular (400?) would better. You can go to HL 60, and then lighten the skin, or use a 40 lb. foam and have a slightly heavier skin.

Other good tricks:
  • Use a .5 or .75 oz. glass dart, long, for either side of the fin at the mounting. Mine are 5" long!
  • Re-wet the skins at the trailing edge
  • On either side of the hinge, about .2" away from the hinge gap, run a row of holes at .1" spacing. 40 pin, single row, circuit board header makes a good push tool to open up that row of holes. Fill the holes with microballoon epoxy during the lay-up. If you don't know what I mean, find somebody with a version III RC Builder glider, and look at the vertical stabilizer with a light behind it.

I see a bunch of letters strung together... but I don't know what they mean. Hopefully it means if I bring a glider to work with me it won't be

c. cold as



Brandon I have a V III vertical attached to a mangled pod and boom, I could let you look at

-Jim (who has yet to make any strides at fixing the LH III picked up during BSoUT)

I think I understand what you mean with the holes. I don't quite grasp the purpose, however. Also, do the holes span the entire vertical or just the section around the boom? Thanks!

I got a real horizontal for my Topsky. no more slow stick tail.Thanks for not laughing Saterday. I will fly no matter what!

Marc, for light CF cloth we have purchased some from HK. I don't know how much your looking for, but someone in the group may have some left from the last order.

As Bob said. Two rows, one either side of the hingeline, immediately adjacent to it. The filled holes, done properly with no voids, tie the skins together, resist delamination, and help prevent shear failures by resisting compression.
