Duke, what TX do you have???? Just the DX6i?????
Old Jim, sorry heres the linky. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218...pid=&search=jr radio Duke, do you have a good scale that will weigh in grams??? If you do, pile up all the stuff that will eventually be part of the Topsky and let us know what it weighs. PS, if this is your first DLG, which it sounds like it is, I would see if I could beg one of the guys up North to come have a looky lou at where you are at now. A DLG is pretty picky about things being just right and the more you build based on what may be a bad setup, the harder it is to undo. And I mean it could be a HUGE pain after you pass certain points, ie servos mounted in place....... But whatever you do, get that thing built, you will love it. Great bang for the buck on the Topsky. |

Who would fly an Alula out of range???? Was it in a Gale??? What a dope...
I am anxious to see how the Assan 4 channel parkflyer rx does in my Blaster. I am comfortable though with the Assan @ 1 mile range, so it will just be a question on the carbon interferance. I think I will just range check it @ 1/2 a mile and see if see goes into failsafe @ any point and any position of the airframe. |

Jon, I think that your idea of having someone to check out my build is a good idea. I live in Farmington and I know that Jim lives in Syracuse and works in Salt Lake. Maybe we could hook up sometime.
The new RX's I have on hand are: AR6100e, AR6110e, AR6200 w/satellite and several Hobby City AR6100e clones. I was planning on the AR6200 and was under the impression that the satellite feature needed to be used for longer distances. Does anyone have a flat blade on hand that I could install while I order another to replace it? Or is there a LHS where I can purchase one? Thanks to everyone for their help! |

Duke I have a spare blade for the Topsky. I would strongly recomend it. At some point I will be cutting out my carbon tube peg and mounting the blade as I think it will enhance the throw height. I can hook up with you this weekend if we do the DLG task up North this weekend.
A satalite rx does not give you any better range per se. All it does is give you redundancy. 2 antena do not have any increase in range, otherwise you would just stick 10 antenna on every RX and be able to fly 100 miles away. Just replace it @ some point so I have a spare. Kid Jim, I may actually be intrested in one of those blades you showed me for the Topsky. |

Oleg sells a nice slightly curved blade too (SEE HERE).
ASK sells raw blade material, carbon laminate prepreg that just needs to be shaped to your liking (SEE HERE). Or you can easily make your own by laminating several layers of carbon cloth (SEE HERE). I've even heard of guys taking a piece of popsicle stick or some lite ply and laminating it with carbon cloth. Also heard of using RC car body chassis plastic. Just about anything flat, strong, and light should work. About the DX6i transmitter... Not ideal for DLG use due to lack of certain mixing functions and programmable switches. But you can get by with it for a starter. Once you get hooked you will definitely want to upgrade to a full featured unit that gives you all the mix controls you will want. A search of the handlaunch forum will provide lots of possible DX6i setup options that will help you. (HERE) is one of them. And HERE is a very helpful document. |

Cliff and I were up on Ensign Peak and I hit some awesome thermals that carried my Alula higher and higher. Before I knew it my Alula specked out. All I could see was the reflection of the sun off of the tape that I had on the wings. Then we could just barely see it go down among the homes by Memory Grove. We saw it bounce off a roof and studied the pattern of pine trees so we could identify the home. We found it about 20 minutes later near the front porch. I believe that it ended up about a mile away - as the crow flies. Jim, I am working at home today as well - tax time. Tell me where you want to meet and we will get together. Thanks |

I won't be able to fly till after 1 on Saturday. I know Mike and Jeremy are planing to fly the task on Saturday. I believe Jeremy can fly around 2-2:30. I think we were hoping for a site further north. WSUD would work unless Jon could get us on the Peck sod farm on short notice.
