My Mig is almost done. This is my first scratch build and i must say it looks horrible.

Still needs a spinner, canopy and some decals.

Good work! Now you've stroked the cat. I decided to scratch build once, I haven't stopped yet, and it's been 2 years.

I was getting worried about your Jart build at one stage...

Hi Rhys,
For my spars, I used 6 x 35 mm pine strip from B&Q or Maxwells. Comes in 3 metre lengths so you'll have plenty left over to go with all that correx...lol. Cut off a metre and stanley it corner to corner and shape with a block plane. 2 minute job.
With ref to your fuzz formers, I used 2 pieces of 5mm correx (couldn't get 3 or 4 mm) at 90 degrees stuck together for the main structural ones. Don't know about the weight difference between them and ply, but they ain't breaking.

I'm going to build an ultra light weight one next. Might try a 2mm skin over more formers. All my landing sites are heather so damage if any is usually minimal.
Good luck with your build.
Simon

Well Done Gotlieb, don't worry about what it looks like, it will fly and once in the air you won't notice any imperfections!

lol, yes, I got side tracked and build bunch of balsa planes instead. They are all flying now so I have no excuse. I have 34 days before it's a year old. It'll be ready to fly before then. I'm not sure it'll fly before then though - the wind is not playing nice at the moment.

Besides, SensibleNick took 3 years to build his v-tail jart.

Thanks guys.

I always want to scratch build but it is so difficult to finish.

Also i am a perfectionist with a patience problem.

Thanks Simon! Trip to B&Q it is then on the weekend, need a mouse sander too so will look at them the same time! Thanks.

I have all the 2mm parts cut out and ready, apart from the wing. I'm going to cut a 2mm and a 4mm fuselage tonight. I think I'll build up both fuz's and see how they compare in term of strength and rigidity. Pic's to come tonight...

Progress guys! Progressssss!!!!

Ok so... 'we' now have wings, fuz (4mm) and all 2mm parts cut and ready.
Left to do is;
Pick up wing spar material tomorrow (thanks Simon!)
Cut remaining 4mm and 2mm parts (see note below)
Decide on former material. (1.8 ply or 1/8 lite ply or balsa sheet or 4mm correx)
Canopy will be left till last.

Note: I'm cutting out parts for one original plan Mig and one ALL 2mm Mig to test durability and strength against each other.

I now have fingers and lower arms like Schwarzenegger! Damn cutting this 4mm is hard work!
