C-47 Skytrain Build

I'm going to be building a C-47 Skytrain over the next few weeks (hopefully not months). I have been planning this build for a while and have finally got a little time to get started.

The plans for this build are from the Fiddlers Green paper models plans blown up 560% (110" WS). I'm going to be using foam board, 1/8" plywood, and high impact packing foam for most of the build. I hope you follow along and I'll try my best not to let this drag out too long.

I am posting photos of what I have done this week. Hope you like it.

Looks nice so far! Will you include retractables?

Seriously considering retracts. I've downloaded a lot of photos of the landing gear. I may try to fabricate them myself. They don't look all that hard to understand so I may try it.

C-47 Skytrain Build

Any suggestions on Motor/ESC combination? My guess is somewhere around 8 - 9 pounds on the weight (with batteries). I know that's heavy but I have never been a light builder and the big ones fly better to me with a little weight.

Wow, that's big. Love the C-47/DC-3s. I still have one of my first foamie builds - a Gene Bond C-47.

Thanks guy!

I finished the center wing section today (wing tubes and all) and the center section alone weighed 2 lb 9 oz....lol It's made entirely of 1/8" plywood....I am definitely not a light builder. That should put the whole plane coming in around 9 pounds. Still not bad for a plane that big though.

C-47 Build

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. That's one of the downfalls of running your own business.

I have some more pictures, but I also have some questions for you guys.

1. Suggestions on best way to connect the wings to the connector rods?

2. Does anybody know how much dihedral should be in the wings to be scale?

3. Any motor/ESC/Prop recommendations for a plane this size?

I'm just wanting to do some scale flying....(no rolls, loops, stalls, etc.) It doesn't need to be blazing fast. I just want it to fly with sufficient power to handle some wind. I do want to use a 3 Blade Prop though.

More tomorrow maybe!

Update

Well, not too much done. I've made some progress, but as much as I hate to say it, this build will have to be put on hold due to the economy. I'm at the point that I need to buy the motors, esc, and batteries and the economy is in the toilet..lol I just don't have the extra money right now to spend on toys. Maybe soon...

even if there are no more posts on this one, its still a very informative build thread on how to work from cardstock models. makes it a lot more clear to me anyways.
