Good wing loading on a sailplane. Homebuilt balsa?

I was just wondering if anyone out there built some mini sailplanes using balsa sheets sold at hobby stores. I noticed that the boards are simple to make into wings, and they are long perfect for large sailplane wings.
I have not had any previous experience with gliders, but I am building a balsa model( I will post pics soon), maybe others build ones like me and can throw me a little hint?
I can figure out wing loading when the plane is done, what numbers should I shoot for?

Balsa Builder. With some foam.

I build this with Balsa sheets from my LHS. But I don't know the wing load.

wow looks very nice! I will post mine soon
I want to cover mine too but I dont have the tools plus it adds to the cost.
How does it fly? no motor? does it stay up there long?

You can make a very nice small glider with a solid wood wing, if you can find good enough wood:
Note that the built up option shown is only if you can't find 4 lb wood. Another option recommended by the designer is to go a little thinner with the airfoil and use 5 lb wood. C-grain of course. Or you can do the 36 inch version. But the bigger it is, the better it flies.

oooh, very nice! I think that will be my next project!
What I did is took 2 36" pieces, sanded the edges into the best airfoil i could, and gluded those 2 pieces together, so now its 72" wingspan, but wings are not as wide, but it looks about right

How thick are these wings, and how wide? If it's too thin and too narrow, it might not be strong enough.

oh they are strong, just a little bit of flex to them, but they are pretty strong.
I think I'll put a motor on it just to be safe, plus I dont have a sling
I tried uploading pics but my camera fails haha
