4th Annual San Felasco Hand Launch Glider Festival

It's finally time for the official announcement:

The 4th Annual San Felasco Hand Launch Glider festival is on for February 18th, 19th and 20th, in Alachua, Florida. This will also be a stop on the F3K Tour, so start planning your mid-winter vacation to sunny Florida.

Put on by the Friends of San Felasco for the benefit of the park. Three days of fun in the sun on a magnificent 80+ acre field.

I know I plan to be there, perhaps I can talk brother Buddy into coming along too.

It was great weather there last year, but I did have to scrape some frost off my windshield in the early morning Sunday ?, but things warmed up really quick. It's a great field and the Hosts are all good folks.

Right now, I need a break from DLG competition, but by time this event rolls around, I'll be real glad to head south on "75", and air those DLGs out.

Sunny Florida in February,

This is one of the best contests going! The field is real nice. The tree are far away. The weather is awesome. The friendship and knowledge of flying gliders is the best place to be! I'm heading south for this one!

Tenatively, I want to try to make this one, so I'll put my name down.

Dave, is this an ESL contest now? If so, you can probably use ESL registration/calendar system for registering pilots.

There's a $195.00 fare on Airtran that goes from Washington National Airport to Orlando right now. That fare departs Thursday morning at 6:45AM and returns late Sunday night. The same flight departing Washington on Friday is $263.00. The extra day's car and hotel rental makes both trips about the same price though.

The Airtran flight is cheap. I've found some cheap hotels near Alachua (about $50.00 per night with taxes). The car rentals from Orlando airport are expensive though.

I wonder if the flying field is even available for practice flying on Thursday. The Airtran flight would have me at the field before noon.

I'd be looking to share a car three ways, probably Gerald and one other.

Jim, are you driving down or flying?

The flying field is always available, but the gate is normally locked (with a walk through), so you might have to walk out into it. I will be there setting up Thursday afternoon, so you could drive onto the field then.

Haven't got negotiations started yet with the ESL, but availability of a registration system already makes it more attractive.

Phil. I was just talking with Doug about this. I am trying to get a look to the future to see if I have any classes to the south at that time. I am not opposed to driving especially of we end up with multiple drivers. I am also open to the idea of being transport for gliders if I end up driving and other locals are flying in.

Dave. Shoot DLHimself an email as he would be the best one to talk to. I for one would not mind the opportunity to start collecting ESL and Tour points at the same contest.
