Lipo battery & servo question

Hi All,
I'm building my first DLG (a gladiator 2) and want to make it very light yet I want to be able to have a battery(s) that will last for a long length of soaring time. ( when I get the time I'll spend all afternoon or maybe all day throwing)
I will be running a pull/pull rudder & elev. and also the full span ail/flaps for a total of 4 servos.
I decided to switch my jr 8303 radio over to the this 2.4 module https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14355
and this high voltage rx: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14350

I'm at a loss as to which light weight servo's and batteries to add to the package. Anyone have any experience with these products and can offer some suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

The only servos suitable for running directly off of a LiPo and DLG use currently are the Dymond DS47. You'll need 4 at $20 a piece. They are extremely light weight and work well for the task. I realize this doesn't fit well with the inexpensive mentality. Unfortunately, DLG's are not an inexpensive hobby.

The only servos I can honestly recommend from Hobbycity for DLG use are the VG-8 thin wing servos, and they will only fit in the wing: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7026. However, these are not rated for 7v use, and will likely burn up under that voltage as they are already warm on 5v.

Here is a thread on batteries: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...1302618&page=2. This battery may work but you'll need to make sure it fits in your pod: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7301

D47 and D60 works great with no regulator on 2s lipo. Spectrum is inexpensive and hv compatible. For more $$$ You can get JR DS290 and H09.

For 2S capability, there's not much else for a choice... still waiting on availability of the HV JR micro digitals.

Watch out all you moles!
I am using two - 250 mah's each Hyperions - 2s, wired in parallel. Gives good placement options.

They fit right in the Taboo.

I have used dozens of Hyhperions in helis and they have been far and away the finest packs I have used out at least 7 different mfgrs.

Also with the d47's. No problems so far. The futaba rcvr is also holding up.

Hi Seba,
I enjoyed reading all 43 pages of your home building thread!
How far you came from your first to latest DLG is pretty amazing.
I would like to purchase one of your throwing pegs something like #3 from the right shape wise with out any tilt (https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/atta...mentid=3574331) and I'd also like to buy one of your full flying stab mounts. I see my self getting a rudder and stab from you some time too but I'll beat up my current ones first before I do. Please let me know how much these two items are and where to send payment to my email address below.
Your work is beautiful!

Thanks,
Steve
