Battery check - low voltage (Pb battery)


Hi. I bought a pb battery yesterday and went to charge it today. I have a icharger 106B+ with a power master legends 40 amp psu. The battery is a PB 12 volt 12 AH. I entered PB program, set to 2.6 ampere (also 6 ampere with same result) at 12 volt power input, but i got this message: Battery check - low voltage.

Both voltmeter and charger says that the PB battery has currently a voltage of 10.61 volt. I use a male banana to banana plug from the charger.

This has not been an issue with my lipo's and nimh batteries.

What can be the problem? I even tried to set the input power at 12.7 volt with same result.

There is your trouble. Ypu purchased a stone dead, no good ,shot Pb battery.

When a 6 cell Pb is at 12.0 V is is empty and msute be recharged right now. Most sho;d never be discharge below a no l;oad voltage of around 1.4 volts.

There is as much to learn about Pb batteries as there is LiPolys.

Take it back , it is no good.

That batt. is deader than dead. I'd take it back and ask for a replacement. 12 volts is considered dead after full use and in need of charge, using a good batt. If you can't return it, hook it up to a regular car charger that has no low voltage warning and leave it on till it shows over 12 volts, than switch it over to your more sophisticated charger and hopefully it might take a charge.

See if you can find a battery charger (auto) that has a desulfating function, you may be able to save it if the vendor won't take it back.

Also, beware of charge rates. Most Pb batteries should not be charged at more than 0.1C, especially sealed units.

Aha, so I should charge at 1,2 ampere then? This is a sealed battery. It is in a plastic container.

It's kinda charging slow. The battery has had 14.39 volt for a couple of hours now, and the ampere meter is at 0.31 - 0.33 A. It is still feeding mah's, but it's increasing slowly.

I have charged it with 1.0 ampere.

Is this the socalled float charging? Will it ever stop charging?

Did you not listen to everydayflyer? That battery is on it's way out (the fuse is lit) so you should have taken it back. Its yours now.

Oh, I forgot to tell that I got a new battery. It came with 12.15 volts.

You keep buying dead / bad Pb batteries,. perhaps that one will last a little while.

You really need a true Deep Cycle and it really needs to be a fresh one.
