well Sea trials went great . We sailed the Sparks Marina in light winds and had a great time even though it was like 32 degrees out.

The only modification I have made to this boat is to replace the clips on the lines.

For a beginner boat this is a fine boat I think. Although I dont race or anything like that, for taking your model out and having a relaxing time on the water I would think this is a great boat.

After reading through this thread, I can see how a lot of the guys on here have made modifications with an eye towards perfect handling, speed etc. But Im not worried about that, so, for me this is a fine model.

Everything you want is in the box. You can get started sailing with just a couple of minutes and some batteries.

Good luck to anyone thinking of getting this boat.

And to everyone on this thread who posted. You helped me decide to get this boat, and thank you for all your input.

Glad you enjoyed your boat on its first sail. Hope you have lots more sails. Ryan

Where are you located? Where will you be sailing? Do you live near or hobby shop or are online purchases your preference?

Also, will you be racing or a member of a club?

Easy for you to say! I'd race more from HK, if I lived in Australia, too.

Osito, I would consider light wind for the vela to be less than 8 miles an hour. I would suggest reading about some of the Vela mods on this thread. Ryan

Transporting a Vela is easy. Take the rig off it and it becomes a more manageable size. Keel can be removed pretty easily to if need be. Watch Ebay and tower does offer money off when you buy more than 100 dollars. I get the specials in my email all the time. Ryan

Osito,
Is this your first saiboat? If so read the thread carefully and consider what others have done and the info available on the boat, good and bad. Ryan

I would as the line that comes with the boat has seen some rig failures. It would be on my list of modifications. Ryan
