we've had a very mild winter here in BK, but the wind has been an issue. I've only had one evening with this plane in dead calm--definitely looking forward to more! handling in the wind seems to be improved with the SFGs off, fwiw.

I'll add that I was worried about breaking the bottom sfgs, but it was the top that snapped first in the car and then after a slight nose over, and then in the air after a repair....

Time to Fly AJ's Best!

Got to fly the Yak for a couple more at lunch today. Only 47 out, but a cold North wind. I forgot my Hoodie, just had my jacket and cap. Was shaking 3 minutes into the flight. Packed up, jumped in the car and cranked the heater for 10-15 minutes.

Started feeling normal again, jumped out again for a second flight.

My lunch must have kicked in, cause I felt a lot warmer on that one.

Definitely a speed improvement with this 950, actually pretty hot. The Yak is a much wilder plane now. Did a half power on Blender and it sorta scared me. Very abrupt! Was hoping the strap held! Did some more KE mixing tweaks tonight, testing again tomorrow over lunch. Getting very close on final tuning.

So how do you like the 13x6.5 vs. the other props that you ran?
I've got a 12x6 on mine now running the Rimfire 15 motor. Power/speed are fantastic, but I wonder if the 13x6.5, or even a 14x7 would make enough extra propwash over the control surfaces to make it worth buying a different motor?
This motor is a 1200kv and on 3s it's great power/speed. Happy there, just wonder about a bigger prop disc....

The 13x6.5 is pretty fast on 950. I liked the feel of the 14x7 before, except for the extra torqueness in Hovers, but I could get used to it. Easier to fly smoother lines with the 13x6.5. I do wish I had a tad more airflow when transitioning from an inverted harrier into standing it up in a hover, requires more chasing and inputs to stand it up and hold it there, more so than the 48 Edge on a 13x6.5.

Not sure what a 14x7 would pull on this motor, probably fine in this weather, but not in warm weather. After I get done with the KE Mixing, I may Wattmeter up a 14x7 and see what it does.

I'm enjoying the new energy the Yak has found with this Kv.

Just have to set the throws and COG.

Just in time! We are getting 22-24 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.

I also noticed that 3dhs has stepped up the quality of the hardware, love the new axles with the wrench, simply awesome! Also got spare rolls of covering! Whoo hoo!

I did receive some .060 material today. I was able to do a test cut but we stepped down the bit to a 1/16th rasp style bit. This gave a cleaner cut and didn't push or pull the material as much. However it does mean the mounting holes for the nylon bolts do need to be drilled out. The material is more rigid but there is still some flex to them. They are also a tight fit. The stock SFG tabs are about .053 in thickness so these required a touch of encouragement to fit together in the slots.

I'm happy with the cutting but I have a few small tweaks to the file to get it perfect and as fast as I can. I need to check on the material cost and availability of the sheets and then I should be able to come up with a cost to cut them out for others.

Hopefully I know in the next day or so and can soon get some cranked out.
