I got one, but I just have not assembled it yet. I wonder why more people do not have these.

This airplane finally taught me to do rollers with a balsa airframe. Seriously. I had the "magic" moment on Saturday and had it doing figure 8 rollers down on the deck. Been doing them in the sim for a while and with foamies more recently but never with a balsa airplane.

I almost ate it once but I think it's got 9 lives!

Aw, SF...keep things positive.....this little airframe is different from the rest just because it's a round cowl with a bubble canopy....I own one...and I enjoy flying it. Simply's not as mainstream as the edge's, extras, and slicks, thus not as "popular" as you state so well.

Still a cool little plane that flies nice.....rolls are SO smooth, it has that very straight rolling feel like the last few of AJ's newer designs.

What can the Yak do "better" if anything versus an Extra 330 SC or Edge 540?

Soon as I "do in" my little 40" Edge I'll be purchasing one of the three above planes. Based on what I have available as discretionary income the Edge 540 would be easier on my PayPal account.

I have a 102" Yak SP-55M and love the way it looks as well as flies. If the little Yak doesn't have any advantages over the Extra or Edge other than looks, $25 - $40 is a significant difference to me. That could be one reason it doesn't seem to be as popular.

I won't say it flies any "Better" than an edge or is a nicely 'balanced' all rounder....

The ONE thing it does that the others cannot....LOOK like a yak and still fly great at 46" wingspan!! If you like a round cowl and want one, then there is no substitute....well worth the extra money...

I can imagine it is a little harder to build out than the slab-sided fuses of the others....probably where the extra cost comes in....but who really cares...if you like the way this's the only quality YAK55 in this size available!

I got a pull on one at SEFF. LOVE it!! Def a must have for the fleet. Harrier is stupid easy with it..Like edge easy..Really kind of took me by surprise. This little yak will huck man.

KE is very good as well but aren't yaks noted for those anyhow? Good flight envelope.

Well since the weather is garbage I have decided to start the build on this. I started by applying more thin CA to every wood joint I can get my hands to. It does not add any weight to due so, but I have found that any arf does not get a lot of glue at the factory, because balsa is real absorbent. Next step will be to measure and glue in the horizontal stab.

What does the Yak 46 do well

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on what this plane does well, bought it when first released last fall for my winter plane to fly in parking lots. Being in MA I was expecting to be snow bound as far as flying fields. The Yak is good at ...

* Flying fast in wind and precision, feels very light and nimble in the air. Is fun at either a big field or in tight. Tracks great in big manuevers and can slow down.
* Great knife edge, esp for a "turn around knife edge" or whatever it is called.
* Axial rolls.
*Hover (see picture). I took it to my wife's family reunion, best one yet
* Fast down line tumbles

Harriers are challenging, need to stay on the power. Rolling harriers don't feel as comfortable, like a Slick for instance.
