I am staying on this 120mm setup and the 15 pounds. I am thinking up a twin but need to get the speed controllers back in stock.

Working on the two models on the bench first.

To me it looks like the Turnigy 4030-880 is a good choice for 12S use, and the 1100 a slightly hotter choice for 10S in the 4" fan.

6mm collet


just starting out will electric ducted fan, great info on this fourm, trying to order the 6mm collet but then web link on the first page wont work, if some one can repost info for the needed 6mm collet or where to get it, keep up the good work!

Very cool guys. I decided to try a Wemotec HW730 rotor in mine. What do you guys have your timing set to on the Turnigy 120A HV controller? This is my first one of these

I`ve been flying mine on the default settings. I`d have to check to see what those are.

An HW730 rotor? What do those cost and who has them?

$$$ Those are hand laid carbon fiber, and the fan has been out of production for years, I suspect Kevin has some old stock at home.

Kevin, you are cutting one down to fit a 4" shroud? That would be easy enough as the HW 730 is a 105mm fan.

You are correct Arngeir! I have 2 of them here doing nothing so I have put one to work .

I ran it up on 10S 5000s last night, no readings. Later today I will do 12s 3700mah or 4900mah.

I have one of those HW 730's myself, mine is assembeld with a Neu 1912 1/Y sitting inside, I'm thinking about trying it on my Falcon 120 as it is using the included ABS inlet lip and tailpipe, and there's room in the motortube in that fan for one of these 49mm outrunners as well so that is another possibility I might end up exploring.

hi all , im glad to see the numbers that you are getting from these fan combos. can you guys tell me if hk's measurments for these fans are accurate? im working on a haoye f18 (same as ed waldrep's) and im trying to measure if i can stuff a 4.5" in or if im limited to the 4" . thanks, sorry for the hijack.

thanks alot. so your setup with the 4" fan was the 4030 1100kv and turbax rotor . did you have to beef up the motor tube on the 4" to fit the motor after boring it out?

It's a good idea to reinforce the motor mount with a plywood or fiberglass disc. If not the motor can wobble around and rub on the motor tube.

yeah i've got some 160g 3k carbon i can use to build up the front of the motor tube but will boring out the motor tube make it too thin to support the stators ?

No, that is ok. It's the motor mount at the front that's a bit weak.
