Android Phone App - Center of Gravity Calculator

Here is a free Android Phone CGC (Center of Gravity Calculator) for planes (It can prevent a crash!).

You enter your required CG percentage, measure and enter the tip chord, the root chord and the sweep and it will calculate the position of the center of gravity of an airplane measured back from the leading edge at wing root.

It's free, released as donationware, and is now available on the Android Market.

It's pretty intuitive but instructions are behind the 'Instructions' button

Comments and suggestions welcome!

Please try it out and send it to anyone who might be able to use it! (or point them to this post)

Now available on the Android Market:

I have tried such a style before.

It then gives out results such as required by a Trainer type, instead of the aircraft as advertised, like for an aerobatic type. The new results work fine if all you want is a hotter F3A type than you are not normally used to.

You input your OWN required CG, i.e. if you want an agile aerobatic type's CG around 33% then that's what you put in, if you want a trainer type then put in a stable CG of 25%. The app will then output the balance point aft of the root chord leading edge.

The instructions in the app give a guideline however it's up to the experienced pilot to use a CG that achieves the right style of flying that he requires.

All this does is to give a rough idea of the CG of a plane especially for that all-important first flight, it uses formulas which are widely available on the 'net but on your phone at the field. If it prevents an uncontrollable flight ending in a crash then it works!

It is FREE after all

Seems like such a device would be helpful to those of us who don't have a smart phone yet...and can't use an "app". Is there a LINK to a spreadsheet or simple calculator somewhere on the web? thanks Rich

p.s. Oh yes...and thank you for providing a free service that many could find helpful. regards, RG
