X5J October 23rd & 24th Sign-UP
Welcome back for a seventh year to X5J eXtreme.
News: The current proposal from the SC at FAI F5J,looks much like the X5J competition with a height limitered added, and not the energy limiter as originally thought. So if you have been flying the X5J events everything is the same except you maybe beginning your flight at a lower height, or no change for some of you. It is nice to know that FAI can distinguish between events that have an electric component to winning (flight time - motor time) and events that have no electric component (winch in the nose). To enter, please post to this thread your ship and power train information, before the days of the contest. During the day of the contest post your scores. You may fly any or all of the classes below. In general, all classes use flight time - motor time and up to 30 points for landing. The goal has been to minimize the rules to stress a Unlimited nature for these events, so everyone with an electric sailplane will have an airframe and motor that will meet the rule requirements. New rules for X5J eXtreme 2010 TASK: Fly three 10minutes rounds using only thermal updrafts with an electric motor powered sailplane. X5J eXtreme UNLIMITED rules: 1. Any airframe, motor, battery, ESC, and prop maybe used. 2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it. 3. 30point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3pts/m X5J eXtreme SOR rules: 1. Any airframe, battery, ESC, prop, motor with 28mm diameter and 17mm magnet bell length or less. 2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it. 3. 30 point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3 pts/m. X5J eXtreme AMERICA 1. Any motor, prop, ESC, 2.0kg or greater airframe, four A123batteries, 2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it. 3. 30point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3pts/m General Rules: 1. Any part of the airframe maybe used to determine max. landing points. 2. Round motor and flight times to closest second. 3. Motor must be running at launch. 4. Each second of flight time is one point, seconds greater than 10minutes are subtracted. 5. First and additional motor runs, one point per second, loss of landing points on second motor run. Hope you can joins us for the fun. The Best Soaring Robert |

I’m in again for October.
I think that I will fly my High Aspect 3.1M this month, which is in the “unlimted” category: AXI 2820/10 outrunner, 2600 lipo, 12x6 prop, AUW 56 oz. This light power system yields a 2,100 ft/min climb; not a rocket, but not too bad. My other 2 meter e-sailplanes will be in reserve if needed, both of which are also in the unlimited category: direct-drive, brushless inrunner power system driven by a 3S lipo pack. FF |

I'll use my Australian LEG setup again:
Topaz S Neu 1509 1D w/6.7gb. 16x17 RFM prop and spinner Jeti opt 77 PQ 3s 2200 45C lipo JR770 rx. Sanyo 1500 4 cell nihm rx. battery It's been awhile, but Hand Launch is over for me this year, and I can go ahead and fly other planes now. What a season this has been! Good to see some of the usual suspects here in the Postal competition.....we need to see the rest. ![]() |

Looks llike the wind will be up for the weekend so no more SOR flying. MiniAVA with F5F Hacker B40 on 6.7gb, and 16x10rfm prop and 3s Neu 2200's. Still light but great climbing rate. Hope everyone has great weather for the weekend and the last X5J of 2010.

We are on vacation in Orange Beach Alabama this week. I brought my SOR model because it fit in our van along with all the other stuff we brought for a two week getaway.
The forcast looks windy, but if the Weather Channel is wrong, I,ll give it a try. Mike |
