Slow Stick X motor sugestions?

Being as the days are getting shorter I would like to get a night flier together. I like my planes to serve multiples purposes so I plan on using this one for night flying, my acrobatic float plane and parkflyer.

I currently have a towerpro outrunner 2409-12t, 20amp esc and a 8x3.8 prop. This setup is rated at 200watts, will this work for a slow stick? And what will slow flight be like?

Hi Mitsudriver,

The stock motor of Slow Stick, brushed EPS400C-DS+ Prop EP1060 + 9.6V is rated less than 100W. click at the circles of 1060 under D gear viewing its performance. Yours will be more than enough for flying SS.

I assume you are using a 3S LiPo? That power system will work. Slow flight depends on total weight, not power system although the weight of the power system is part of the total weight. But that TowerPro is not a heavy motor. Slow flight should be fine especially if you have the CG dialed in.

Since it is such high Kv (1600) I might run it with that motor on 2s... with a far larger prop... maybe 11x8 GWS HD.

I fly my SS with an Axi 2212/34 (740Kv) on 3s with an 11x8 GWS HD at under 10A (~100W)... your 1600Kv motor on 2s @ 20A should manage somewhat higher (?140W) output.

Yes, that high kv has him set up more for speed on 3S. I use that exact same TowerPro motor on my GWS E-Starter but I use 2S and a 9x6 prop.

I think the title of the thread Slow Stick X motor implies that this Slowstick has the X wing, not the stock Slowstick wing. I don't know what kind of speed the X wing set up can handle. So this speed system may work OK. For slow flight he will not be using much throttle.

If a person really wanted slow flight from a Slowstick they should keep the stock, high lift wing. And with the high kv motor move to 2S and a larger prop like Dr. Kiwi suggests.

I am using an Eflite 450 with a 1300 mah 3S battery. The combination works great.
