Do you use the naptha for removing the struts and landgear?
Thanks,

The motor need to be cut out.

Very little holds plastic to foam. trace around the plastic with a sharp exacto and put apart.

Remove the interplane struts from the top wing leaving the bottom intact. Removing the bottom may take a little paint off the bottom wing.

Thanks Rolf and Tim!
The descriptions helps a lot.
One final(?) question where is a good place to get the UHO POR glue?
Thanks,
Ray

I use a little drop of 5 minute epoxy on the lower wing strut pocket area.

As the epoxy sets up, I press the strut into the epoxy to form a glue pocket, then pull the strut out and wipe off an epoxy that sticks to the plastic.

One the Epoxy is fully hard, i use UHU por to attach the lower strut to this pocket. It can be pulled apart hundreds of times with no damage to the wings, and there is only one glue joint per wing, instead of 2 if you make the uppers removable.

The pocket ensures the wing stuts are properly aligned, every time.

thanks UNGN!
I will use the epoxy mold idea - really nice!
How do you make the upper attachments removable? It looks like Rolf pulled his apart.
Also where is a good place to buy the UHU por glue or is it similar or just as good as the canopy glue?
Thanks,
Ray

I keep the upper joints attached to the upper wing.

I buy UHU when I visit Germany. Some European sellers may ship to the US.

You Can also buy a similar glue like Beacon's foam tack

None is fine. lubricant isn't the problem... its bad geear mesh from an 8 tooth pinion. The Best thing to do when the originals go bad is to swap in an SE5a motor/Gearbox (4th gen):

Gearbox: FLZA6319

Motor/Pinion: FLZA6318

The gearbox on mine failed. I'll order a couple of the SE5a combos and be set for a long time. Thanks for the tip!

Well over the New Year's holiday I used my Tower Hobbies gift card and one of the items I ordered was one of these little Albatross'. I should have read this thread first as I also had them ship me 2 more gearboxes for the Albatross and a couple more props. Oh well I guess I can always order the other gearbox and motor/pinion setup.

PS - I really like to paint schemes that some of you have done on your Albatross'

Just fill out the return form and return them. Tower has hassle free returns. I think you can even order the SE5 gear boxes you want on the same form. Or just give 'em a call.

Some grease, 15 min break in running and a reassembly with UHU POR did the trick.

Now it is smooth and quiet.

When reassembling the gearbox I corrected the alignment because the camber was a little too much for my taste. Hi is this the new servo brick standard for the plane

Hi is this the new servo brick for the plane

After I heard of some quickly dying motors and saw that there was no cooling for it, I decided to change this.

I drilled some holes in the motor dummy and the fuselage to bring some fresh air onto the motor to cool him down.

I'll open the cockpit in front of the pilot, so the air can pass here.

I was very surprised to see that there are "real" servos on the board - was able to set 125% to improve the deflection of elevator and ruder.

To be continued ...
