What gearbox and prop should I use on a SlowStick with Speed400 motor?

What gearbox and prop should I use on a SlowStick with Speed400 motor (6v)?

I have a couple of these motors, and no $$ for a brushless yet.
I feel like the SS is underpowered at my altitude (Utah), and more power will help with the local wind too.

What gearbox / gearing do I need, and what prop is best.
I run 8 cell packs and a 30amp Jeti SC.

Is it possible to modify the stock gearbox to work?... doesn't seem like it.

Try an MPJet at 5:1 with a 12x6 prop. If you use AAA packs, they won't work very well with a speed 400. Try 950 KANs. Should move the plane right along.
The motor won't fit a GWS box.

S400 for SS

Or for about $20 you can get a GWS EPS 400 with your choice of gear ratio and of course it mounts on the motor stick.

You could use your existing S400 motors as spares.

Yea, I agree. Get a gws 400C-maybe G gearing. Once I find one around here Im going to be doing the same thing cause my 300C-D keeps dieing with my battery packs... The G gearing seems to be the best when looking at the stat sheet drawing 8.9A and giving 17oz of thrust with the 12x6. Tell us how it works!

Well it looks like I get to tell a little before you do... IT FLYS AWSOME! I just got back from a flight in my back yard. Climbing is much better although the extra weight does really come into play when gliding... As long as the motor dosnt die quickly I would whole heartdly reccomend using the 400C-G geared motor in replacement for the 300... My friend has a camera and we are putting together a video of us called the "Foam Flying Freaks" but I'll try to get some footage of my new and improved SS and let you guys decide for your selfs.. See ya!

EPS 400

seanpr123 -

Are you flying with 10 cells?

I have read in at least two threads that there is significant difference in performance with 10 as compared to 8. The stat sheets seem to show that also for 2 or 3 of the gear ratios.

slow stik with 400

my slow stik with 400 flew sweet! 12 x8 prop is better.dont worry about the amps, just fly it.crashed it then went to astro 010 with 10x8.chop chop, now we have other slow is not so slow anymore either.i call it the funny stik, funny park wing with a short stik fuse,300 12x8 and 10 cell 720' about climb,it wouldn't stop climbing unless you cut the throttle, also tried the p-51 wing on thiswrong answer.get an E-STARTER it flew great before a bad battery killed it. i love these things
"it's not if it will crash,it is when will it crash" trust me tom
