Exactly, I have a 17" monitor sitting around for free, but if it is not bright enough and costs me $60 for a scan converter that works well, then I might as well pay the $100 for an easier TV solution. That is why I asked spitfire what scan converter he is using as he warned against the cheap eBay solutions but didn't share what he is using instead.

I'm from the UK so normally only search ebay.co.uk, but...

That said, I'm sure that most 15" 4:3 LCD monitors (typically a few years old) use an external 12V power brick. If you see an interesting 15" 4:3 LCD monitor, just ask the seller if it has an external power supply. If it does, it'll almost certainly be 12V.

As other people have stated however, they're pretty hopeless in the sun without a screen visor.

Hi,

Its a Digitech Component video to VGA converter

item code is XC-4873.

Sorry for taking some time to get back to you, but In my defence I do work 12 hours a day.

Its not the cheapest solution but It means that any screen like a monitor or TV with VGA-in can be used without having to mod for the blue screen.

I only fly with a screen because I wear glasses.

Regards

Doug

Thanks Spitfire for the information, no negative intent was meant by pointing out I asked you for that model that you use. We all have to work most the time. I am just lucky enough to be able to keep up a bit with my iPhone.

After investigating some more, this solution really doesn't make financial sense. The converter you use is $99 by itself and not readily available here. I can sell my monitor and get something to apply to the $99 CVS Craig 15" or 13" TV.

This may be of interest.

AV Toolbox AVT-3310 Video to PC Up-Converter

As I mentioned I use the AVT-3170 in my ground station for overlaying PC generated graphics on my HMD display for synthetic vision purposes.

EDIT: It appears that the AVT-3170 has been repackaged as the CS-450 and the price is now $375US. EEEOOOWWW! Glad I got mine a couple of years ago for $200 less than that. Guess they got popular with the pros.

Good Luck

Rob
