why is my RSSI working without anything then?

for the last week the voltage range of 1.5 to 3 volts have clearly indicated signal strength. did i just get lucky? after calibration, my osd shows near 0% RSSI when transmitter is in microwave and 100% when next to the receiver. If i stand in between the two is dips to somewhere to 70-80%.

Good question, not sure how it works ! - maybe it is lowpass filtered a lot before it gets to the OSD?, maybe it samples fast enough and does max/min holding?

i connected my 9x rx to the cyclopes osd unit and i get 1.7 when in best signal and 0.8 when rc link tx is turned off.

i guess it correspondence to what others had come out with.

Why not adding a LM358 to create a Voltage Follower / Buffer? Don't forget that when you connect the RSSI you take power that can false the data.

I guess this is pretty much a lost cause getting RSSI from the cheap radio.

Out of curiosity I did probe with multimeter, same results as majority of post here.

The one that posted had it working must be one fortunate soul.

I guess not all hope is lost. A negative peak-hold circuit would correct the pin1 waveform. I designed and simulated a very simple one: http://www.partsim.com/simulator/#28397

When the RSSI portion of the input signal is at 0.02V, the circuit outputs 2.6V. When the RSSI portion increases to 0.75V (almost no signal), the output drops to 1.6V. When the RSSI is around 0.85V (signal lost), the output further drops to 1.55V.

The output values are well within 0-3.3V, so can be used with 3.3 and 5V ADCs. I intend to make this circuit and test it on a FlySky R6B receiver (A7105 rf chip), and I'll post the results.

Here is the schematic, in case partsim.com website changes or will be unavailable in the future. The voltage source simulates the input voltage from pin 1 (RSSI). Output signal is measured across R3.

Has anyone ever mixed throttle/elevator on the Turnigy 9x Transmitter?. I'd like to know how it is done right.

Circuit to get RSSI for this receiver


I recenlty needed the RSSI from this 8ch rx. If someone is still interested, I'll post the circuit design files here along with the bodged connections to the rx...

The circuit is negative peak detector plus a 2nd order Sallen-Key topology low pass filter. The output can easily be fed to the adc of a microcontroller running at 3.3V or 5V. Here are the output voltages:

Tx on and very close to the rx = ~100mV
Tx off = ~600 to 850mV

The range of 600 to 850mV occurred during my tests because my 2.4GHz wireless router is in the same room. It should be 850mv, theoretically...

Attached are the images for the modifications and the design files for the circuit.
Zip file is exactly the same file that I sent to ITead PCB board house. Instead of 1.6mm PCB, I got 1.0mm for added compactness even though the Rx case has space inside enough to accommodate 1.6mm PCB thickness.

EDIT 1: I did not include the schematic or BOM. Here they are, attached... Also, BOM says the diode is a normal one but I used Schottky (fast recovery one)... You may want to use that also.

EDIT 2: Schematic image was blurry...
