making a 3.7v lipo

Is it possible to disassemble a 7.4 2s lipo and end up with 2 3.7 1s lipos? I have this 3 channel heli that uses a 3.7v lipo that won't take a charge anymore and was wondering if I could make two 3.7v from a 7.4v.

Yes you can BUT some will say that if you had to ask you should not do it. If you're going to try anyways make sure you're doing it with a not fully charge pack to minimize the sparks and shorts if they should happen.

The professionally made pack has shown me to be expertly made to prevent the main power leads from breaking off and/or shorting at the battery tabs under the tape. You need to study that, I don't think it's a big short problem on a 1S but the likely problem IS the breakage at the delicate aluminum battery tab.

Part of the problem in doing the conversion is that the voltage output tabs on LiPO cells may or may not require the use of special fluxes and solders to connect the cells to PCB's or wires.

Here is a page full of LiPO cells and there are some accessory PCBs there too. And there are also some cells with the output leads already attached.

What is the size of the battery on your helo as far as capacity and what is the discharge rate in use? Those are important considerations that play into selecting a battery.

I asked a similar question about converting an unneeded 6S into two 3S batteries, and took the advice I was given to sell it and buy what I needed. Especially since soldering aluminum isn't on my resume.

thanks for the feedback. I have some soldering skill and will give it a shot.I have an extra 7.4 that I can use. I'll be sure to wear protective eye gear. the lipo is a 3.7v 1s 1000mah. the heli is a syma soo6g. these lipos seem to be scarce as hens teeth after market.

Here is a source for the flux and solder your might need to use. It all comes down to what the material is in the tabs that come out of the pack.

If your taking a pack apart, all the tabs will have been tinned and will take ordinary solder with no problems. All the packs I have made up from scratch have had one side of the tabs nickel plated and will take lead/tin solder fine. If you do play with new batts., try tinning both sides of a tab. I'm sure you'll find the nickel plated side will tin fine and the aluminum side won't, so try both sides.
