Veco kit "The Warrior"

I bought this kit over the summer and I thought I would try to build or rebuild the fuse and tail feathers. I have most of the kit punched out parts but I need a few more and I could use a little help with some of the formers.

Please don't tell me I can buy the plans and or kit from(insert name here)
I know this already.

The wings are almost complete and they needed some minor repair.(all done)

I need the firewall and landing gear formers and the rear most former.
Also, I need the locations of said formers measured from the tail spacer.

Any help here.

Compared to the Chief, Smoothie, Thunderbird, and Tomahawk, I don't think that the Brave / Warrior pair were ever particularly popular. I doubt that a measurable number of currently active model people held onto any patterns for either of those Veco kits.

Seems if you don't want to search for plans, even if any are available, you're stuck to the TLAR (That Looks About Right) method of design. Good luck. I hope you complete it, fly it, and post some pics and/or video of the maiden flight.

As jimgee says, use the wing chord as a unit, the height of the fuse as another one, and guestimate. The tail should be about twice the chord, looks like.

this ain't museum scale...or rocket science....

The front former can be as wide as the engine you are using. That is just make the bearers to suit your engine then the width of the bearers sets the width of the former.
Obviously the height of the fus at this location sets the former height.

There is probably no real need for a rear former. If you think the fus needs stiffening up, install some 1/8 or 3/16 sq to prevent the sides from caving in.

At one time I had drawings of the Warrior parts. I'll look and see if I still have them.

Thanks Jim!

Thanks Jim!

I would appreciate that.
I was hoping someone had traced the parts on the back of the plans or separately.

I looked and did not find the Warrior drawings.

Thanks for looking, Jim. Maybe they will turn up someday. Keep me in mind if they do.

I built and flew most of the VECO stunt kits in the 1950's but do not have parts outlines of the Warrior. You should be able to get really close by looking at the plans....

Brings back lots of memories. Thanks.

Thanks James.

I'm leaning toward buying the plans from Tom Dixon Model Airplanes Plans.

Tom is keyboard-challenged. When you are ready to order, you will need to either telephone him, or use Snail-Mail, the old USPS route.

Thank you Kiwi

Thank you Kiwi.

I read that on his web site. Joe Wagner, the designer of The Warrior, still sells plans too!

I bought the plans from Tom Dixon of the Veco Warrior.
I was a little disappointed when I open them.
I was expecting the fuse with the turtle deck and two cockpits.
Didn't happen.
It is plans of the early version.(?)
No turtle deck, just a solid 1/2" block of balsa(hollowed out) for the nose and the rear decking.
Also the formers are just a square former.
Looks like I'll have to draw my own fusalage plans on the backside of the Tom Dixon plans.
I wish Tom D. was more of an on-line kind of guy so I could discuss the issue I have.

Now what I really need is to find a complete Warrior kit and clone it.

I never built any of the mid-sized Vecos like the Warrior or Brave, although I had a Squaw at one time that I removed the badly damaged fuselage from and substituted a profile following the semi- P51 shape of the original Tomahawk (of which I had several). I believe that the Squaw had a built up turtledeck area.

The only difference I can recall between the Brave and Warrior was the addition of coupled wing flaps. If anyone can tell you which body style and kit version was which, between fully built up and semi-log, it would be Joe Wagner (I didn't mean which one of the Brave & Warrior named pair).
