Just one more..... Just one...
Question

Anybody ever see one of these? Looking for a name!

Hey all,

I haven't been doing this all to long and I picked this old timer up last week.

It's in ruff shape but I'm going to fix it and fly it and if it's still airworthy I'd like to restore it to it's original configuration. At the club the guys that have been flying longer than I've been alive didn't recognize it.

Wing span 58 inches
Wing width 13.5 inches
Fully symmetrical wing.
firewall to tip of tail 48 inches
elevator 8x24 inches
Fuse is 1/2 inch balsa on the sides with some hard wood scattered about

The stickers on the plane are varied.

1 -Happy fly 20 - pics look like my Avistar
2 -The World Models - nothing current matches
3 -Dura Plane - not what I found
4 - Cessna (not)

I've looked at the dura planes and The World Model planes and nothing I have found matches, but it look like it might be old enough that pics may be black and white in someones drawer :-)

It has a Super Tiger 60 on it, fired right up, engine appears to be about 20+ years old according to some folks at the club that have seen and used that motor.

Dunno, figured I'd ask, would love to see one in it's original (or close) lay out to be able to restore it to. Even if it doesn't fly it would make a good ceiling hanger!

Thank you for your time! Take care -S-

Are you sure it's not a scale Cessna of some sort?
That was a joke.

That rudder looks way too big for the airframe. Sorry I can't be of any assistance.

I built mine from a kit(balsa). This would have been circa 1984/85. My 1st kid came in '86. Then priorities changed.

Looks like a Rapier to me, will be back to the house this weekend and can pull a kit from the vault and compare specs to your specs and refresh my memory of the profile.

OldMeister,

I am honored that this is your first post!

I would highly appreciate that, if there was any way to get a pic off of the box that would be great! If not I understand.

I'll see if anyone has some books/Mags going back that far I'm sure I can find some!

I really appreciate everyone's help, I'll stay tuned in case anyone has pics!

Have a great weekend! -S-

Not a real artistic boxtop, but this is what you got. FYI, CG is 3 7/16" back from leading edge on plans.

OldMeister.

Thank you so very much!!! you also answered a biggie question about the CG. I have a calculator but it's always best to know what the manufacture recommends!

Awesome I'm excited now. It may be spring before I get to fly it, I have a hanger full of repairs to make but as soon as it files and proves itself airworthy I'm going to start redoing it!

I really appreciate your time. -S-

I had a few of those Rapier kits recently and sold them. I kept one .40 size and it's almost finished. It's a 54" wingspan, it's known as the Rapier ll I believe.
I'm rigging my wing for 2 aileron servos, and I'm running a .45 FSR to keep weight down.

If memory serves, these were back in the 70s and early 80s production down in Miami FL. Dave Platt models somehow merged or bought Pica, and many kits were labeled Dave Platt models. The balsa quality is far better than what you find in kits today. I look often for "Midwest plans", hence my ID name, enjoying those old kits as well. Anyone have a Hots or Super Hots laying around perhaps?

I have 2 Super hots and have just finished building and flying the Ultra Hots with a Z38 for power. I have built and flown almost all of the Hots series by Dan Santich and they are just great flyers. None for sale though.
