Hangar9 Blue Nose P51 Mustang with Benedini Soundsystem

Hello,

I´m still happy, my P51 is waiting for the maiden.

I checked the thread about this Beauty ( thanks for the hints ) - only thing I´m a bit worried about is the Take of Weight , around 13,5 Pounds.

CG is on the safe side ( 120 mm )

Setup is:

AXI 4316 with APC 17 x 10

Hyperion 6 cells 4000

Yeti SPIN 77 amps OPTO

Thrust around 10 Pounds

Here´s a little Video , hope You´ll ´like it

It´s a Benedini Sound System with 2 Speakers, one in the Cowling, one in the middle of the Wing )

I do not know how many watts you are pulling or the kv of the motor but I would bet that you have too much static thrust and not enough pitch speed for this plane. I would recommend that you have a pitch speed of at least 80 mph and be in the range of at least 1500 watts minimum. Maybe a apc 16X12 would be a good choice. Mine flies nicely on 8s at 1800 watts with a 16x10 with a pitch speed of 80 mph static and mine weighs in at 10.7 lbs.

thats going to be overflowing handful at that weight---watch yourself and keep our spped high---did you do anything to reinforce the gear area?

Who's spitfire kit in the background?

Paracanary, yes, maybe the Pitch Speed is slightly to low, but with the Drivecalc.de Program I should have a Speed from around 60 Miles but a lot of thrust, if the bird will survive the Maiden I will check a higher Pitch , 16x12 sounds good for me.Thanks.
800mZero: the Spitty behind is a 1/6.5 from a Mick Reeves Kit, and yes , I will reinforce
the gear today...My Kit seems to be the latest of the first production run, everything looks okay.

Will keep You advised

Hi Spitty - Good luck on your maiden.

If you are going to fly it with your power system, I would suggest that you do very shallow climb out to altitude to avoid the snap. In your turns, do not bank the wings pasted 40 deg by using a lot of rudder. In other words flat turns. I would also start out with a little down trim in the elevator and have very little throw. If you are worried about too little throw then set up dual rates.

Good luck, keep us informed.

Paracanary, thanks for the nice wishes ! Yesterday I did the maiden, everything worked fine, nice scalespeed , but You´ll fell it in the sticks : it´s a high wingloaded , heavy little warbird.
I normally use a lot of elevator throw ( with a lot of expo ) but after reading the Threads
I reduced it to 19 mm Up. That´s to less, while landing with full flaps I did need full up elevator to get things right. And I will reduce the throw of the Flaps because Mustangs seem a bit critical, the elevator will come in the deadzone of the airstream ( sorry about my english ).But anyway , she sounds so nice in the Air and it´s really a
beautiful Mustang with her " Blue nose "
Try to post a video in a few days
regards

NIce job Andy , , I did not know the system would be feasable on a plane this size but you did a great job , makes me think that on an esm 75" bird its very doable
Again great job

Wow, get videos. You make it look a lot lighter than 13.5 lbs. That flare on landing was perfect. You had me on pins and needles. Sound system sounds realistic
