Jeeeesh.......all of this talk just for retracts and I still haven't even decided on my power system. Hey......maybe I'll just eliminate the landing gear all together and just use my bungy launcher. (Quote)

I would get Efflux RC Mega Motor for 8S or TamJets 1409/1509 TJ80...If you want the best and spend lots,Tam has a TJ80SE coming... I have spent way too much already, the credit card bill is coming and the Wifes Eyes are going to look exactly like this guy's!!!I'm going hide all the base-ball bats real good!!

I like the 15-25s, lightweight but (IMO)heavy duty enough for the habu32.
If you fly off a paved surface you'll never have an issue.
I'm sure I hit a half-buried rock either right at touchdown or during the takeoff. I've over 40 takeoffs/and landings on our hardpack dirt field and this was the first time it gave me any trouble other than the typical loosening or slight bending of the strut wires that happens on all my retract equipped jets there.
I just ordered a set of Tams strut upgrades for the habu from Gary at EffluxRC.
They'll deal with the bumps alot better plus damp out the occasional bouncy landings.
I already had a spare set of 15-25s so I can replace the nose retract if it fails completely.
I also desoldered the fake deans off the series connector and replaced with real deans. A very quick run up (inside my car to keep the noise down!) showed 81A 2100W and no heating of the connectors or wires unlike last time.
Hope to get off work early enough to get a flight in tomorrow.
I'm going to get 7S 5000s to try as well, 5000s will hold higher volts way better than my 3200s.

Has no one else tried 7S with the stock motor/fan?

I am going to run 8 cells on the stock motor and fan later on in the season. With a heat sink installed. The guy on youtube did it and finally burned up the stock motor after 4 laps of full throttle. (no heat sink) I'm thinking I will get away with full throttle passes. Just don't do laps with it pinned. Haha.

I got 164 and 167mph down wind pass on the GPS logger this evening. The wind about 3-5 mph top.
I don't know if that accurate enough.
No diving....GPS show I did drop 200 feets from the start of acceleration to the top speed. That is long distance for 200 fts drop.
It hard to kept it level flying too far out and barely can see it.

Well heck Tam, Ya got us beat. We only got 163 max in a 20mph crosswind, level, on video and RADAR.

Got the shipment. Thanks.

I think your struts with the E-Flite 15-25's are the way to go.

Talk to Steve Neu this morning.
He will make the motor I want for TJ80SE.
Than maybe I be happy with more power and more speed.

Nose Gear door

Here is my old dog trick how to do nose gear door pulling by the piano wire.
This is old school set up. If anyone of you remember the old days building balsa plan kit.

Hi all,
Iīve started my built last weekend and found some problems. Some are old some new to this thread...

Altough I sanded the base for the mainwings on the fuse they still rock some millimeters back and forth. Noticed that there are some heavy flex in the fuse where the trailing edge meets the fuse. Has anyone reinforced that area?

Same thing with the stab. My left one didīt sit tight to the fuse. Had to grit away some color and spackle from the fuse. At stabs leading edge the fuse is to weak with flex as a result.

Is this anything to worry about. My easy fix will be to tape the wings to the fuse.

I just finished installing the retracts in the wings (yes I got the wimpsy plastic ones...) and used the stock screws with success. I did enlarge the holes a little and used the liquid soap trick, worked real nice.

When working on the wings, the slightest thing on the table surface will mark the wing surface, so be carefull. I did use a piece of foam that was in the box for packaging, but it is still easy to mark the wings.
I too used the stock retract screws with out issue but I did as the manual said and used a 5/64th drill bit. and I also used the foam square from the packaging worked pretty good but the wing is definitly very soft I made marks in mine just removing the stickers.
