hey chris,
i have a 291mph speed for my mc3 v-tail from that killer day last april that got missed. if you could slip that one in 'cause i may never get the v-tail going like that again!

At 123 it felt like it hit a wall and was at it's speed limit. I think the wind was about 20-25kts. It would have flown much faster with a few ounces of span ballast.

Got my speed with a broken spar as well. Caused a puzzling trim issue until I noticed the break during the rebuild on it. Ian and I traded top speeds with her that day until mine stuck.

This won't be an all out speed build just a nice DSer with acro abilities. No fixed TE, bagged elevons, or carbon winglets. My local DS slope will chew up a lightweight and spit it out so I need a little mass.
Standard predator build with the following changes:
5 cell batt
Moved servos out a bit to the first mold mark
4-40 linkages
carbon ribbon sub TE
3 (maybe 4) layers of strapping tape
FG rod instead of the std carbon tube in the stock spar hole. Stops at the pushrods.

That's it...

First time out with my new D60


Hi, Chris

I guess I'm going to start tracking my speeds and see how far I can push myself, so here's my first speed to post:

Date: Sep 15, 2010
Location: Skirrid, Wales
Model: Joe Manor D60
Speed: 151mph
Radar: ProSpeed (speed recorded by "Zim" Warrick Smith of Sloperacer UK)

I was only 3 laps into the second ever flight with my new D60 when the left flap linkage let go and it fluttered, forcing me to bail out, but not before Zim got a reading on the gun! I can't wait to get back up there with a better linkage setup on my flaps. I know this thing can hit 200 easy!

That D60 will probably go up to 350+ with the right gear and some big wind.

Sounds like you had a nice day at Skirrid. Looks like that already puts you at the seventh spot for Skirid HIll. Send or post me a pilot picture if you would like and if you have any other speeds to post, please do.

Here is yesterday's results with the Thorn 60" and Little Demon at Jones Pass. The Thorn is the older all wood sucker. Fun plane. We were all hoping for better wind but you get what is given.

It was fun today flying with Gregg. I managed a 343mph with a D80 and Gregg did the impossible and went 130mph with his Halfbad. Not to mention his 311 D80 flight. Fun times. Direction was perfect, and tons of lift out front. Just not enough wind. One of these days that place is gonna go off in a big way.

9-22-10. Thanks Chris. Will get some video of that halfbad next time. Pretty sure it will go faster with more weight.
