OK here it is.
Lh wing 242g
RH wing 236g
Servos in wing included in above weight are 28 g each
Fuzz complete with orange receiver and 2 servos 412g

Fuzz excludes battery of 54g and 302g of lead and canopy
Canopy 22g
Auw =1268g
I think previously I misquoted the Auw as I had not included the lead

Just over 2 years ago I walked into a hobby shop looking for a plane I can fly in the wind. I was so frustrated that I couldn't fly the electric plane I had then in the wind and I was getting tired of the flight sim. I heard guys talk about flying at Maitlands and flying called sloping so my mind started going and I started my internet search and this is what I found.....

the slope-rebels blog - http://slope-rebels.blogspot.com/200...th-pilots.html

I also found this blog - http://correxmig.blogspot.com/2009/1...maitlands.html

and this - http://sa-jarts.blogspot.com/2009/10/maitlands.html

I was getting closer to flying a plane in the wind.... then I found this on YouTube

The famous Maitlands Bomber video
PSS Bomber at Maitlands, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. (4 min 19 sec)

I went back to the hobby shop and asked if they sold slope planes, that's when Uncle Toni overheard my conversation and told me to go to the Golden City Cafe and look for a guy called Sean....... and the rest is history

Well it's been just over 2 years now and on the 10th of Sept this thread will be 2 years old

So thanks to everybody that contributes, unlike 2 years ago, if you now do a search in google for Maitlands Slope you will be overwhelmed by the results!!!!!!

Some pics from the old days before I could even fly!

Great job, Bakkie and fellow S.L.O.P.E. fliers. Congrats on the two year anniversary -- lots of planes have been flown (and some destroyed) during that time.

Hope many more in the next two years. I always wake up each day with my cup of coffee to see the latest from P.E. -- kinda like my morning paper!

some of my random recollections......

On 15-Dec-2007, I posted this question, while still in America, on Drusky's South Africa Regional thread
Gentlemen, sorry dont want to hijack this thread....
if I volunteer for a project at work, I will have the opportunity to move the family from Michigan-USA to Port Elizabeth about a year from now.
I fly electric, but have never sloped. Is there much RC airplane activity in PE ? Hobby Shops ? RC clubs ? Hows the weather, wind, etc etc ?
thanks for the advice
Beagle

I also remember seeing the Bomber video and thinking "those guys are crazy"
at the time I did not know there was such a word "oke"

then when I "landed" here in PE, I remember trying to figure out where was this place called the 'Slope Cafe'

and here's a pic from this thread on page 2, with Sean helping me with my first sloper

Hi There,
Beagle and others ..very nice posts above, I to constantly follow the slope rebel action, but being so far away and with somewhat difficult local slopes, cant quite join your "fold" with post contributions.
Hope to one day fly with some of you guys , especially the Slipper.
regards and well done

I'm with you on that one Mike. I too follow the action. Very jealous of maitlands, love that flying spot from all the vids I have watched. I hope to get myself a correx plane and also come fly down there with the correx squadron.

Cheers
