the CG seems to be very important . teh canards will help with slower speed.

you may want to ...
extend the vert stabs under the wing as i did with the forward swept version .
or put wing fences on .

Auw?

Does anybody have an AUW for this bird at the 20" ws? I want to know what weight I should target?

the micro c ~10 inch can be built to be 8.5g , with strength

if you double it expect mass of air frame to almost tripple, so 25 - 30 g

and tha fits with mine , now , i'm 16 inches using heavier park flier gear and have 51g before power plant , but if i took out guts , she woudl be 31g ( Now that is a the forwards sweep , butthey are very close )

so at 20 inches shoot for 30 to 35g , withough gear in . subtract mass of your gear if it is allready installed.( ~ 20g for non power plant gear is good )
and of course you gear should be light as you have on hand.
in all you will want to keep AUW ~ in teh 100g to 150g , depending on your power plant .

My 20 incher is 164g (5.8oz) with a 3 cell 500 mah using the same motor as Mayday in the first post and 5g servos. I originally had it at 5 oz with a 2 cell 460 mah, but it needed more nose weight. I could have left it at that weight by moving the servos forward as my 500 mah is not mounted all the way forward.

I hot glued my servos to the bottom of the wing, but next time I might bury them in the fuse and extend the ailerons right to the fuse. The linkage has to be protected when landing in grass which means more bits of depron and therefore more turbulence created. I guess one could use torque rods and hide the linkage completely. A lot more work though.

Torque rods are awesome idea! I don't mind setting them up, and also saves you a servo on models with elevator. I might do this on my mid-jets series projects.

mayday.

Yeah, it makes a cleaner build and cleaner airflow and out of harms way when doing belly landings.

So here's the canards, set at 1.75 degrees ready for testing tomorrow am. We have a long weekend with Monday off but they are calling for rain so fingers crossed.

Good luck with the canards maiden "boardman". If you can get a short video, that would be great.
All the best

1.75 , perfect i do 1.5 you 1.75 and mayday 2.0

i'm sure it just has to be some positive incidence .

now i rounded teh front of mine , coverd teh LE of canards with clear tape .
i did not feather sand the TE of them like i do teh verts .

if you don't round teh le of teh verts , and feather teh TE of verts you get drag that pulls up on nose.
if you featherd your verts you get speed but no upwards pull ..
canards fix that ... or just fly fast . LOL

looks great !

Andy - just uploaded some video - waiting for processing and will post shortly

Luis - thank you

Prime 8 - I will do the rounding and feathering next - thanks. The 1.75 was to intentionally be between yours and Maydays suggestion Actually I have no idea what it is. My incedentometer has been misplaced, so I just drew a line off the wing with a ruler, added bead of hot glue, twisted a bit up, and hold to set.

It's much better now at slow flight with the canards.

Here we go. Has the maiden (fail), then flight with and without canards.
