looking at several 1/16 or 1/18 nitro micros need help
I've been around for a long time in this hobby. I've had some of the best nitros including the LST2, and some mediocre ones like the second version of the T-Maxx.
I have also had alot of electrics, like the E-maxx, E-Savage and others. We sold our two E-Maxx trucks because it was just too big and heavy for my son to tote around.
I have also owned a ton of micros.
I did one of the only original reviews of the CEN ME16MT. It was good in some ways and bad in others. The good was the fact that it would take a 1/10 scale 540 size motor and standard servo and 1/10 scale 12mm hex wheels. These were all great pluses. The biggest downfall was the stock electronics and lack of after market support.
Currently my son and I both own brushless Stampedes, and two 1/16 scale brushless buggies that we also bought on-road conversion kits for. We run them as on-road cars exclusively because we have the Stampedes.
We wish the Stampedes were 4WD/
So, now my son starts getting interested in nitro. But it will only be us backyard bashing, because there aren't any off road tracks around us for MILES!
Since I have to buy two of them, the max budget is like $175 each.
I have been looking at the CEN MG16MT, I have read 4 good reviews and one bad for it. Just like the ME16MT, it isn't very popular and not many people have them. I do know from experience that CEN has lots of parts in stock and good Customer service.
But honestly, I don't like the body or wheels/tires, they would have to be replaced immediatley and I know it can be done because I did it with the ME16MT
I'm also looking at the Exceed Thunderfire. It looks like a good truck and I have owned Exceed products before with no problems.
I found this one for $99 and actually considered it but probably not
This is the company that I bought the Photon V2 buggies/cars from. They are now carrying this 1/16 scale nitro truggy.
So, thatís about all that I found with in my price range.
Notes: My son and I fly planes together, race our on road cars together and fish together. He is also in baseball and many other activities. So we really wonít have a lot of time for these, but want something to bash around with from time to time.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
I'm going to add one more to the mix.
Redcat racing Tremor
alright, i have one thing to say right off the bat. AVOID EXCEED AND REDCAT AT ALL COSTS! they are not good kits and are plagued with issues. it looks like the cen is your best bet, and if you can get tires and a body to make it look better, than go for it. but as i said already, avoid exceed.
