Pro Boat PT-109

I hear the pro boat pt-109 has been discontinued. I also wonder if some of the flaws in this kit was the cause.I've heard some people say the water pickups for cooling didn't work half the time and some parts would break off way too easilly.after hearing this, plus the boat is over priced,I don't think I'd buy it now.the list of large scale pt's looks to be down to the lindberg and dumas kits.I have two lindberg pt's.

The Proboat version was a rebirth of the same boat formerly sold by Midwest Products, Inc. Proboat did some "upgrades" that were not worth the paper they were designed on, such as the complete failure water cooling system and the totally un-scale like LED lighting. The fittings I are the same as what Midwest used, and they are not too fragile as long as you don't handle the model like an uncaged gorilla.

That said, it is a good model for "kit bashing" and adding some scale accessories too. Make your own proper water cooling system and add a reliable ESC and some good Raboesch props and you can have a very nice PT boat at 40" long.

You will have to look for one though, because yes it has been discontinued by Proboat.

I've got the Pro-boats 109. I got mine from a hobby shop seller on ebay-- it was slightly damaged, and I got it for about half price. I updated mine with a bunch of John Haynes fittings to convert it to a mid-war weapons fit.
Here's a picture:

The water cooling system is rubbish. I'm going to add a small water pump this off-season.

nice model.yeah I heard the same thing about the pro boat pt.a guy sent a review to horizon hobby where he got his and told them it was trash! the water pickups for cooling didn't work.guess that could be a reason it was discontinued.is that camo scheme offical?or your own design?

Retired for now
Too bad they didn't just fix the problems with this boat. It's really a nice looking model. Pete

the problem I have with my two lindberg pt's is that when I run at full throttle, they always take in alittle water and my electrics are not waterproof!some water may be coming in thru unseen cracks between hull and deck.don't know.wish someone made a clear spray on sealent I could use to fill in gaps.

That's an actual PT camo scheme- or at least pretty darn close. Boats in the 1943-1945 period carried a variety of camo patterns. The Squadron PT Boats in action book has several of the schemes.....

I got the following from John Haynes:

37mm, 20mm, turret .50 cals, 40mm, torps, launchers, ammo lockers, mast and radar, raft, and dinghy. Not all that stuff was listed on his webpage, but when I emailed him, he told be he still had some stock left.

The extra .50 on the pipe mount is taken from the Hasegawa 1/24 scale Jeep kit. (I found a picture on one of the many PT boat books I looked at that showed a boat with this custom install.)

The Depth charges and smoke generator are the original Pro-boats items.
