Indeed....I bought twice (two) gyros for about 1/3 of what it cost for a GY401. With the money I saved I was able to pack two air-frames with gyros (They Mystic 401 variant), ESCs, and servos.

I liked them so much I bought a third and sold both my Futaba GY401s.

From a setup and operating standpoint, they feel like the GY401.

I've got an HK version of the 401 also, I must say it is not built as well as the Futaba or Mystic variations.

for general ff and maybe even very light aerobatics, these knock off gyros will work fine.
it's hard 3d that they can't handle.

How does it work? Any tail drift? Is it more like a piezo or a SMM?

Just wondering your thoughts on your knockoff...

I need a favor. I've never bought one of these before. Could some please confirm that this is a knockoff. I need to open a case with ebay.

I refuse to have a knock off product ... it cheats a good company that makes a good product out of its money and it's exploits its good name.

email the seller. there's a few different people selling those 401's as genuine, but they're so cheap that i don't see that being possible.

i emailed one of the ebay sellers of those 401's (based in hong kong, $88 free shipping is too good to be true for a genuine futaba 401) and they stated they're the real deal.

i'm still not sure if i believe him or not, but if they're fake and being touted as real, i think ebay would make the seller pull the auctions...or at least edit them to state "knock off" or some such.

(its a clone? ) , but it looks like it has gold contacts. look at the lettering on the case (gyro ) go here and compare the 2

edit: not sure, the only way would be to open it up and see if it has gold contacts or not

I'll pull mine apart and take pictures as soon as I get it.

At least the contacts look gold in the pictures ...

Any update?

Sounds like futaba is going to need to put holograms on their packaging to ensure 'the real deal'....

Actually, looking at the Futaba counterfeit page, those two linked on ebay are definitely fakes. The font on the packaging is the best way to tell- look at the top of the number '1'. That matches the fake on futaba's site.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Scary.

Ok I have finally got my GY401 and I can confirm that if you have bought on the GY401's from hobbyrc-y on ebay that they are fake.

They are however a very good copy. They do as pictured here have what looks like gold contacts.

However, when one opens up the gyro case what we find is very interesting....

There is a rusty bolt ... instead of this ...

I'm going to have some fun with this guys I suggest everyone else does the same.

oh i wish that pic of the bolt was clearer, i can barely see it.

if i were you, i'd contact ebay and futaba. that's complete and total fraud.

I'll take a better picture later ... I'm at the office right now and I will replace the pic. I also already contacted futaba and I have opened an ebay case against the seller. Also, I don't want my photobucket account to spike with 2 meg photos.
