GP Escapade on Floats

Here's what the Great Planes Escapade looks like on Hanger 9's 25 size floats. I'm using a Turnigy 35-48-1100 motor, 10x5 prop, 4-cell TP 3850 30C battery, and 60 amp E-flite ESC. Motor draws 50 amps for 700+ watts of power WOT. The plane weighs 6-3/4 pounds with these floats, so the wing loading is a little high. It's great on the water and flies well with the floats, but it lands a little faster than the land version.

The Escapade was the hit of our Club Float Fly today. I settled on a 10x5 prop and a 4S 3600 mah 25C battery pack for the Turnigy 35-48 1100 motor. Not unlimited verticle, but mighty fast with this setup.

Hey McD,
Please tell me about your rear mounting for the floats.
I'm looking for a winter project.

I just went through my drawer of leftover gear and found one that was about the same width as the front gear and about the right height. I wanted to use the plane's front gear mount and then use the two wing bolts to hold on the rear gear. I set the rear height so that the wing would have a slightly positive angle of attack when the floats were rocked forward and "On Step" just like they would be at takeoff. I used this height/angle-of-attack setup because it works so well on my stock Hangar 9 Saratoga. Hope the pictures help.

THANKS, that's a big help. Looks good indeed.
I'm getting ready to install mine soon, thinking of painting mine black to make the plane stand-out better. Your install will be very helpful, especially how you made the water rudder work, cool method, much appreciated.

You should be here this morning -- we could be float flying! Temps in the 50's now will get up to 70 later today. The lake out my front door is smooth as glass. Think I'll charge up a couple of Lipos and get with it.
