Question

Best place to buy a RC helicopter?

I'm new to RC helicopters and there are so many websites selling RC helicopters. Has anyone bought from WowHobbies or xheli.com? I'm looking for a reputable online store.

Thanks,

Betty

If you do a search (general web search and search within rcgroups) on these companies, you will get to see complaints and compliments posted on them.
Some companies get a lot more complaint posts than others (I have not dealt with either of the ones that you are asking about).

I vote for Hobby-eStore from USA. Excellent customer services.

You can also go to the home page of RCgroups. Scroll all the way down until you come to "Vendors." Click "Vendors" go inside and do a "Search this forum." This will give you a good idea of what's what. Keep an open mind and ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question in this hobby. Also keep in mind of shipping costs. Do you live on the west coast or east. I think the mid-west folks has it made...I think...lol. Good luck. Welcome. Hope this helps.

Here are the ones I've used with no problems:

Hobby estore (US, CA)
Helizonerc (US, CA)
Hobby Lobby International (not the chain) (US, TN)
Focalprice (China)
BPhobby (US)
Xheli (US)
OKhobby (China)

Ones sometimes or often complained about:

Banana hobby
Certain ebay sellers, but they have so many different names it's futile to list them. I steer clear of ebay altogether.
Xheli/Raidentech gets complaints like they don't answer the phone or emails. However if you go to their blog site and enter your complaint they usually get resolved. Their blog site is NOT their sales site, so it's kinda like jumping through hoops.

I personally just use google to shop and go to the shopping tab and click for lowest price. Then I cross reference that price with ebay. You have to be very careful with spelling - like "eflite CX2" will get you a certain number of hits and "CX2" will get you a certain number of hits so you have to play around a lot with the spelling to get the best deal.

Almost every US based online store is fine and if you use pay pal ... if they try and you -- you can basically turn the sale around. Also every store pretty much tries to gouge on shipping. Make sure that you use that when comparing stores because most of these places will say 6.00$ USPS when your buying a 2$ item.

I love

my atomic hobbies - but they seem to have shut down.
boomtown hobbies is good

I can't really comment on the rest you just have to play around a lot or evolve into a vet who doesn't care and shops at an LHS.

I think it depends on what kind of heli you are buying.

The way to go about buying a helicopter is to first decide which one you wish to purchase and only then ask about the best place to buy it.

...
Two incentives for stores to keep shipping costs high:
1. Shoppers often overlook shipping costs when comparing.
2. If the store refunds for a return, often the shipping part is not refundable.

I order from Hong Kong all the time and only at Deal Extreme do I have to wait that long at the most. Miracle Mart only takes 5 to seven days on the average.

My last order from Deal extreme, only the second in total, showed up 8 days after getting the email confirming it had been shipped, I was impressed.

I think a lot of people could help, if you provide more information. Aside from what heli you are looking for, how fast do you want it, what kind of support do you need, knowing where you live makes a huge difference. Of course, I mean the generic "you", not you specifically.
