Columbus Ohio "All Hallow's HL Funtest" October 30th 2010

Howdy all,
We are planning to run a new contest this fall in Columbus, Ohio. We have been able to schedule and reserve the field through the local parks and recreation department for a formal contest, which is great news.

We had to schedule after the fall soccer leagues are done, so we have chosen Saturday October 30th. This may be a bit of a weather gamble so we have the 31st as a reserve day if needed. The good news is this one day trial event could set the stage for a two day meet when soccer is not in session between mid-June and mid-August of 2011. The parks department has been really cooperative.

The field is very large, housing 13 soccer fields and mostly agriculture beyond that. The facilities are great with flush bathrooms, a pavilion, and a super playground if you want to bring the kids. Like dogs? They have a fenced in dog park as well.

This contest will be run very similar to the DARTS contest with basically the same crew running it. Joe Mekina and Al Schmidt have volunteered to help out, since this venue is closer to home for all of us. Additional volunteers are welcome. We plan to have a fun competitive event (hence the name *Funtest*). Note that this will be the first ever sanctioned event on this field, so we want to do a one day event to feel it out before we really get a more involved two day meet going. Since it is Halloween weekend we will plan to wrap up in time for anyone that needs to get home for beggars night, and also try to have some extra fun with the theme.

We will setup in the Northwest corner of the park as shown in the event flyer. We will work out field boundaries based on the conditions that day.

I will take preregistration by E-mail with frequency number or let me know if you are 2.4, and update the list here. No need to pay until you arrive and fly. My e-mail is [email protected].

Thanks, any questions fire away.

Thought a direct link to a map might be a nice touch

count me in... Nate Schmoekel 2.4 unless I drop my radio and need channel 29

I noticed on the Google map that there is a Nestle facility of some sort nearby..........Someone should see about sponser-hunting some Juicy Juice or Nestea for the event :~)

I'll glue my throwing peg on better and pound some beers to get my throwing arm in shape.

I need to find a good costume for my DLG......maybe a groucho get-up, or a pig nose.

Prize for longest costumed glider flight ????

Jackolantern spot landing contest.....10 points for touching it.....100 points for glider in the eye

I wonder how launching wearing a cape would work????

The Halloween theme might make this contest so cool and different that one might consider not moving the date next year ??? HUMMMM

Bring on the halloween theme ideas guys, we want to do something along those lines so the more ideas the better.
Actually if this goes well we probably would plan for a two day summer event and the halloween event in 2011.

In the spirit of things, I could wear my Tomato Man costume, but not sure how much of a launch I could get with it on!

That should teach you for quoting a picture, one of me is enough on any thread, so I figured you should wear the suite too

All in fun!

BTW, I do plan on coming to your Altitude Limited Electric Soaring Challenge in Dayton the weekend before on October 24. Great concept, puts everyone at the same level, no need for hot motors, timing motor runs, or in the cases of winches extra strong spars

Let's hope for good weather for both weekends!
