In my own 100yrs. of flying experience my fingers do the walking and am glad to talk to anyone. Teaching flying, I try not to talk to the students as they're concentrating so hard on keeping their planes airborn, anything you say goes in one ear and out the other, and very understandable. So I wait till they're on the ground before critiqueing their flying so they can take in what I'm saying.

Yeah I completely agree. My front yard has enough room to fly all my small planes and the field 50yds up a hill behind my house is large enough to fly anything I could ever want to fly, yet I'll still drive 35minutes across town to fly at the club field when I know people will be there. I think I enjoy sitting on the bench under the awning talking to the other pilots/spectators as much as I enjoy flying.

I have my timer set for 5 minutes. Thanks for the info; I was worried that it would be under 5.

Yes, 6 min. is a good starting place. Then adjust for your flying style by tracking how much you put back in the batteries. The wind doesn't matter near as much as throttle management. You can't got WOT for that full 6 min!

I just figured out that WOT must mean wide open throttle. How stupid of me.

with wot on hyperion 240mah i set timer to 6 minutes and still have juice left in there. love those batteries. the extra weight is great for punching into the wind. i flew 13 batteries today mixed sizes and it was pretty gusty and variable. had a blast surfing on the wind at wot.

The one that took me the longest to figure was LHS. We don't have a LHS in this town.

And I'm still not sure about the full meaning of ROG

But I've heard that the Beast will do it, and for what I know, I might have done one already

if you have a plane with landing gear and wheels you have

Rotate
Off the
Ground

Basically it mean to be able to take off from the ground.

Ok, but does it mean with or without elevator input?

I mean, is a normal take off when you use the elevator to rotate a proper ROG, or is it a ROG when you accelerate to such a speed that the lift generated is enough to get the plane in the air without any elevator input - I.e is it Rotate Off Ground or Rolling Off Ground?

+2...What fun is it to show off if there's no one to show off for???...And when I do fly in my back yard the neighbors like it but don't speak "airplane" talk......I'm loooong overdue for a visit to the flying field---Which is only 10 minutes from the house......

But it sure is nice on a 95* day for you to be able to step out on your back porch, get a quick flight in, and then step back into a 72* house where a fresh glass of iced tea is waiting......

Kevin
